They are the eggmen.

beatles

Thirty-nine years ago The Beatles as a band split and went their separate ways. Nearly four whole decades after that event new life is being breathed into their work. Most of you know that “Yesterday” (ha) was significant for a couple of reasons for fans of this pop culture institution. The Beatles version of the video game Rock Band was released as well as remastered versions of their complete discography.

It’s hard to say what exactly The Beatles mean to me. I have so many memories of listening to their music, picking apart different songs, pouring over lyrics, talking to people about favorite songs and albums, and really just enjoying listening to the music. That’s what it’s all about, right? The music. No band has ever matched the quality of these four people’s collective output musically. I don’t think it will ever be matched again. It is unbelievable to think that, as a group, The Beatles released music for eight years. EIGHT. In that time, they reinvented themselves so many times, released nearly flawless albums back to back within a span of less than a year, and reinvented the music industry forever. Another unbelievable (and depressing) fact is that none of them had even reached thirty years of age by the time they broke up.

I have really enjoyed the attention this great band is getting once again. It has given me a chance to think about their music and see it in a new light instead of something that has always been around. Have you ever had anyone ask you if there is something you would like to experience for the first time again? I would love to hear “A Day in the Life” or the outro of “Hey Jude” for the first time again. It makes me happy that my boys are starting to like some of the music that Jess and I listen to, and Jett especially has shown some interest in The Beatles. I am looking forward to the day that I can watch “The Beatles Anthology” with them.

I know I posted this song in my favorite songs list, but here it is again.

I am accepting freewill donations for The Beatles: Rock Band (and a PlayStation 3 to play it on) and for the stereo box set of the remasters. Thanks.

  • What, you don’t want the mono versions, too? If you’re gonna dream, dream big! ;-)

(I am accepting donations for all those things, also! Nice post.)

I cannot donate any money to the cause but I can impart some knowledge that is worth 140 bucks!

Sign up for a sony credit card and they chop 100.00 off the price of a PS3, buy rockband 1 or 2 for 100.00 with all the plastic parts and beatles rockband as the stand alone version for 60.00

    Only 259 dollars to go!

I believe the correct lyrics are “I am the apeman”….Just thought you would want to know.

Marc – Thanks for commenting. I would also like the mono versions but if I had to choose I would like the complete discography in one package. I wish I could have spent more time writing this post, but I threw it together at 10 last night.

AARON! – Jessie would NOT go for opening a new credit card. So that is out. I think you can get the Rock Band package with generic instruments for $130 (plus maybe a John Lennon edition Rickenbacker guitar). But nothing will work without a PS3.

  • Josh, you know me too well. But it might surprise you to know that it’s not even really about the money, it’s the time it will take away from your family and the space it’d take up in our living room. The console and instruments? Hello? Is this thing on?

I’m pretty sure the lyrics are “I am the eggman.” Its a reference to someone (lead singer?) from the Animals who used to crack eggs on naked women. Mr. Lennon then called him the eggman… or so the story goes.

  • The Tyler Forret

Yeah, it’s “eggman” for sure. Josh, I will donate $125 to your cause, but only if you can come up with the rest. There’s some motivation for you!

  • Guys? Mandi was kidding! Remember the misunderstood lyrics post? Get it?

  • Travis (Mandatory Reporter)

Ah, I get it. Good joke Mandi!
