The Swayz is dead. Long live The Swayz.

Patrick Swayze died Monday. While I never considered myself a fan, I respected the guy for doing the best with what he had. When I was a freshman in college, I could always rely on TBS to provide me with a little entertainment with the constant airing of “Road House” every Saturday and Sunday when I finally rolled out of bed about 4 pm. You know, I don’t think I have ever seen that movie from start to finish, but I have seen bits and pieces to add up to the full picture a dozen times over. For me, my favorite role of his is when he thoughtfully played a sleazy pedophile in the wonderful “Donnie Darko”. I also appreciated his self-depricating sense of humor in taking that role, and along with that, the memorable SNL skit with Chris Farley as Chippendale’s dancers. “Ghost” was a very watchable movie, and I now invariably must watch “Dirty Dancing” again with my wife (Huh? The one extra-girly thing about my wife is that she likes that movie? Go figure.), a pop culture icon has passed, and as a pop culture connoseur, I must pay my respects. RIP, (Sorry Jessie) Dalton from “Road House”. Weekend afternoons will not be the same without you. Actually, now that I think about it I guess weekends will not be different in any way. No disrespect.
