After I got home from work, we went to a 30th birthday party for our good friend Phillippe. When we got home there was a comment waiting to be approved from “S. Shilling”. It was posted at 5:59 CST so it was eligible for the drawing. It has been my favorite comment so far about any post I have written. Here it is in full…
Dear Josh , How old are you? Don’t tell me let me guess you never heard of The Beatles and Bon Jovi and New Kids on the Block are your favorite groups or is it Distrubed. I can see you not understanding anything about Todd Rundgren’s music because you don’t know who he is right! Todd just for your information doesn’t care what you think and he sure as hell didn’t write any songs for you. Well maybe bang the drum! When you awake from your coma maybe you will listen to his songs get the messages in the songs unlike the other musicans that you probably love.Maybe you should do your home work before you give out your wonderful opinions. Have you heard of the Cream, Eric Clapton , Buddy Guy or the Dead or how about the Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix,Stevie Ray,Led Zeppelin? Oh I know you have heard of Carlos Santana because he has let some younger generation play with him but he surely didn’t need there help and no he wasn’t in the band Wings! And as far as John Lennon goes he had more talent in his little finger than Wings or do you just love silly love songs. “Make me Puke” Maybe you should ask your mommy to take you to your next concert!
Is someone messing with me?
Let me respond to S. Shilling. Thanks for your feedback. I am 27 years old. I have heard of The Beatles. They are one of my very favorite bands. (If you check back here every Friday for the next nine weeks, you will see some of their songs featured here.) Are you asking me if I have heard of Bon Jovi because they are great, or were you grouping them with New Kids on the Block and Disturbed as an insult to my taste in music? Your grammar and punctuation do not make it clear. I do not like Bon Jovi or the New Kids. Disturbed is not really for me since I don’t like metal, but they are more melodious and therefore more palatable than most metal. I was not slamming Mr. Rundgren (save for the terrible, terrible “Bang the Drum”), in fact I was praising him for impressing me with his songwriting ability. I obviously know who he is since I included him on my list, but I don’t care if he cares or not if I like his music. I’ve never asked Mr. Rundgren to write a song for me (including the terrible “Bang the Drum”). I am not in a coma. I took a music appreciation class in college, and while I don’t know for certain that I did all of my homework, I passed the course. So I have done sufficient homework. Adequate, you could say. I have heard of all the bands/artists you listed. I don’t care for any of them except Led Zeppelin. Carlos Santana is not good. Maybe in the sixties and seventies (still not my style), but have you heard the song “Smooth”? It’s even worse than “Bang the Drum”! That bad! As bad as all the other songs he has had on the radio this decade. I know Carlos Santana was not in the band Wings. (Or John Lennon, who I joked was. Was that what you meant?) John Lennon had loads of talent. Maybe the most talent of all time. Please elaborate on the “Make me Puke” comment. I am unclear of your intent with that sentence. My mother likes some of the same music that I do, but she doesn’t really go to concerts. I am perfectly capable of transporting myself.
Does that clear things up? Really, though. Is someone messing with me?
Dear S. Shilling, how old are you? Thanks for commenting! Please do so every week. I was sort of hoping you would win.

HILARIOUS. I now wish I had thought to do this very thing. Watch out..the next time you receive a bunch of words strung together in nonsensical phrases, it might be me under a pseudonym. I will definitely be back to read more from Mr. Shilling.
you guys are funny. i love this thing with josh writing on here. so.much.fun!
btw: i’m s.shilling. do you believe that?
No.
Wow! A smack down in the works here! I do not know anything about music other than I know a good song when I hear it. I also know how to stay tunned to some good ol’ battle of band knowledge smack down. Carry on folks. I am entertained.
I’m really disappointed I didn’t win. My plan was to use the winnings to go right out a get Wings or Rundgren album. Rats.
