Jace is 2

IMG_9509_p

Happy birthday, Jace (Jacey, Jason, Toby, Vegetable Lasagna, et al.)!

Jace is best experienced, but if I had to describe him, I would say:

He is my blondie.

He is a mix of sweetheart and emerging independent.

He doesn’t speak much, but never fails in getting his point across.

He thinks he doesn’t have to nap everyday (new thing).

His Dada is the most important person in his world.

He puts up with A LOT of (younameit) from his brothers and still loves them.

He is not quite ready to sit through a movie in a theater yet – even Cars 2 – although his Mama thought he was ready considering “cars” is his second favorite word and “dadgum” is a close third (after “Dada”, of course):

He (still) loves to drink coffee.

Jude’s (6 year old brother) favorite thing about Jace is: “He’s cute!”

Jett’s (5 year old brother) favorite thing about Jace is: “Because he loves me!”

And there you have it!  Jace in a nutshell (not pictured).

We’re celebrating his sweet little life today.  He is presh.

Oh, I almost forgot, here is the card Jace’s Auntie Em created for him:

Love it!  The boys thought this was THEEEEEE funniest thing!

Father’s Day 2011

IMG_9429

Here you have the winner of this Father’s Day photo shoot.  Handsome men, aren’t they?

You’ll never believe it, but Jace was the most uncooperative of them all today.  I know he’s had a reputation here on the blog as being the most docile, easygoing one of the bunch, but let me tell you, the times, they are a-changin’.  He’s getting his own ideas of how he wants to do things and isn’t afraid of ruffling any feathers.

IMG_9412

I even got this little gem of Jude and Jett while Jace was being most uncooperative.

We had a great day!

Jude’s 6th birthday

Turning S-I-X is serious business:

IMG_8853

Last month we celebrated Jude’s 6th birthday.  His birthday fell within the spring break week at school, so he had the day off, which was quite possibly was the best gift ever!

Also serious business:

IMG_8858

Legos.  The sets are getting more complex.  What you’re looking at is Boba Fett’s Slave I.  That’s it.  No big.

And that was the only thing he got from us.  They’re getting expensive, yo!

IMG_8861

This is pretty much a regular scene at our house.  There are always Legos on the table, Legos on the floor, Legos on the side tables in the living room, Legos all over their room.  I keep thinking that if I had girls, it’d be something else littering the house.

IMG_8862

We had a very low-key birthday celebration at home with our boys.

Love that Jude.

The Omaha Zoo

The weekend before our kids had spring break, we decided to take a short trip to Omaha to enjoy the zoo for the first time ever.  We invited my mom along for the excitement, leaving on a Sunday morning.  It only takes about an hour and a half to get to the zoo – a very doable distance for this crew.

This may be the worst zoo recap ever, but here you go!

IMG_8796

It was a pretty chilly morning when we started out, about 30 degrees.  It didn’t end up to be that much of a problem as we discovered that many exhibits were inside.  We started our adventure in the Desert Dome.

IMG_8800

This is an animal.  I hope you appreciate my captions.

IMG_8801

Another critter.  The night-vision is a photo effect applied by me to jazz up “the wild”.

IMG_8802

Oh wait, I got this one… it’s a reptile.

IMG_8805

These were big, ugly, lazy beasts of some sort or kind.

IMG_8806

Jude striking a very natural pose.

IMG_8807_p

This guy could have been dead for all I know.  Kind of like the honey badger… he doesn’t care.

IMG_8808

It’s a snake.  Mang.

IMG_8812

I do happen to know that this is an orangutan.  This was one of the most fun exhibits at the zoo, enjoyed by all!

IMG_8813

This picture makes my heart leap inside of my chest.  So presh.

IMG_8814

Climb-time with these friends of mine!

IMG_8822

Jett was very happy to see bears!!  We got to see a polar bear, too, but it seems that I did not think it special enough to take a picture.

IMG_8829

The penguins were another fun exhibit.  Seeing them dive underwater and dart around was so much fun to watch!

IMG_8833

Here is Jude entering the shark tunnel.  Gulp!  He’s identifying all the different species.

IMG_8835

Oh yeah… now this is why we came.  The shark tunnel did not disappoint!

IMG_8848

We spent maybe 3 or 4 hours at the zoo.  We could have stayed longer, but the boys started to get tired.  We packed a lunch which we ate very quickly (because it was so cold) in an outdoor picnic area at the zoo and afterwards got ice cream on our way to our hotel.

We could have easily just made it a day trip, but we thought it would be extra-fun to get a room at a hotel with a pool, so we did.  That evening we swam, ate pizza and then hit the hay.  It was a very full and fun day!

Checking in… I do this from time to time

Hi guys.  Most of you who know me personally know that I’ve had a really rough late winter/early spring.  I won’t go into details here, this blog is not the place for it.  I’ve been getting fantastic support from family and friends who have been praying for me and loving me through this slow-moving dark blip on the radar of my life.  For that I’m so grateful and feel so loved.  Above all, my husband has been my bright and shining light through this mess and our love, respect, dedication to each other has grown by leaps and bounds throughout this trial.  There is a reason for everything, my friends.  God is good all of the time.

I’ve decided that when I’m not happy or there is something going on with me, when I feel less than my usual joyful self, I feel like blogging is lying.  To me, it’s pretending that everything’s ok, putting up a front to make things seem like they are fine when they aren’t fine.  I want my blog to be about remembering the things that go on through the years – for better or worse – but some things are too personal and private than I care to disclose.  I knew you’d understand.

What I do know is that I’ve missed blogging about some really great things that have gone on in our household over the last month and a half.  We’ve had two birthdays, a fun trip to the Omaha Zoo, the loss of a first tooth, lots of fun things and memories that I’ve neglected to record – and dang it – I miss that!  I’m going to try to get caught up on some of the biggies.

Thanks, as always, for hanging with me.

My sons

I love my boys.  I especially love how my littlest boy imitates the two older boys.  He’s just one of the guys.

This was from about three weeks ago – before I dropped from the face of the earth for the fourteenth time in the history of this blog – sorry about that.

IMG_8794

I’d asked the boys to start picking up their toys in the living room and the next thing I knew all three of them were sporting one “bionic” arm each, using it as the picking-up arm.  Including Jace.

IMG_8795

The truth is, there were probably enough socks for everyone to have two or three bionic arms, but it’s just as well.

Third broken window

Yes, sadly, this is the second entry into The Naughty Files in as many days.tnf3

I was talking to our realtor on the phone late last week about an odd situation we got ourselves into with our property and a potential deal (it didn’t work out, btw) and I stopped mid-sentence, mid-thought when I saw this shadow lurking on the window blinds:

IMG_8789_picnik

I knew from experience what it was.  That, and it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure it out.

IMG_8790_picnik

I don’t really know who to blame this on, I think it was Jett.  I remember about a week ago that he was throwing himself into the recliner that sits just in front of the window, and the force probably was enough to push the chair back and crack the window.  But the two impact points confuses me.  Yes, he dove into the chair over and over again before I stopped him; it started out mild and quickly got wild.  Did he crack it on two different dives?

It’s just that the first two broken windows we had looked similar in that the points of impact looked to be right where the faux panes intersected.  Here, I’ll show you:

Exhibit A:

juvie-1

This was Jude wielding a large snow scraper vs. our bedroom window.

Exhibit B:

IMG_6916

This was the boys’ bunk bed ladder vs. their bedroom window.

Maybe any impact cracks at those specific spots?  Good thing all of them have been double-paned.

But really, the timing could be better: January 2009, February 2010 and February 2011?  It’d sure be a lot easier to deal with in the warmer temperatures.

Good thing Prairie Princess gave me the number of a good glass repair company, I didn’t realize how many times we’d have to use them.

A sad day

tnf2

I’m sure no one saw this coming.  Jace’s debut in The Naughty Files?  I can hardly believe it myself.

There is really no explanation necessary.  The pictures kind of speak for themselves.

I was knitting in the front room when I heard a strange noise.  Turns out it was the sound of violent scribbling.

IMG_8783

IMG_8788

At least it was not permanent marker.  The older boys got these cool activity centers in which you can place printed sheets under a transparent dry-erase surface to color, draw and erase.  The blue dry erase marker that Jace is holding in his hand is one of four that came with the set.  The other three have been accounted for.  It was kind of tough to scrub off the walls, but again, not Sharpie tough.

Doesn’t he look proud?

Welcome to The Naughty Files, Jace, you’re in good company.

Photo shoot

My beep-beep is 18 months old.  Last week when it was so warm, I took him outside in the sunlight to take some pictures of him.  He didn’t have a runny nose, the didn’t have any cuts or bruises on his face, he was wearing actual clothes… conditions proved perfect for a little photo action.  Here are some of my favorites:

Bear strikes again

IMG_8668

Jett isn’t over being called “Bear” or at least wanting to be called Bear.  Sometimes I forget.  Ok, often I forget.

A couple of weeks ago at Grandma Bev’s, Jr., Jett asked Morgan if he could play with her iPhone.  She said it was ok.  She asked him if he could type his name into the phone.  Morgan looked after he was done and she started giggling.  He typed bear.  Correctly!  I didn’t know he knew how to spell it.

And then this came home from preschool, this is the back where he had written his name(s):

IMG_8658_picnik

What a funny kid!  Here’s to hoping I remember this nickname when he’s a teenager and totally embarrassed by it.  It’s the kind of mom I am.

Speaking of artwork, here is what he was working on today:

IMG_8666_picnik

It’s really pretty good for him!  I’m glad he’s developing his love of creating.  This is a monster that is chewing gum with a hook coming out of his bottom… his description.

And then he got the best idea*!

He wanted to hide it to scare Jude when he got from school.

So he had me transcribe a note:

IMG_8669_picnik

I told him to write Jett and then pointed to the space on the note where he should sign it.  If not under such specific directions, he might have written Bear, and then Jude would have been totally confused.  Or not.

This was around noon when we did this, and then Jett didn’t want to leave the room in case Jude came through the door.  I explained that Jude wouldn’t be home for more than three hours.  He eventually went on about his day, but he stopped frequently to make sure the scary monster drawing was still under there.

Jude came home, looked under the shirt, but wasn’t scared in the least. It happens.  Maybe next time, Bear… next time.
