Books by Jude

I’ve been purposely quiet on the blog about Jude as it concerns school.  He majorly struggled at the beginning of the year and had a few very rough weeks.  I’ve been cognizant of his need for more privacy as he’s now in school and didn’t want to detail the ins and outs of his “issues”.  Still don’t.

Suffice it to say that he is now a different boy – at least differently behaved boy – and it’s for the better.  Close friends and relatives have noticed the positive change in him and we are certainly enjoying the better listener/obey-er at home, too.

One thing I do want to share is some of the books & artwork he’s been doing at school.  His desire to draw, write and color has also increased ridiculously since beginning school.  As in, it used to be a knock-down, drag-out fight for me to get him to color or draw – heck, he’d even throw a fit about writing his name.  And now, he wants to draw & write when he gets home from school and finds great enjoyment in it.

Maybe that’s why now seeing him express himself through drawings and writing has been such a thrill for me.  I get the biggest kick out of seeing the things tucked away in that mind of his.

This might have been the first book he brought home.  As a part of their daily routine, the students are allowed to write/draw in a journal, or they may make a book.

(Star Wars The Phantom Menace by Jude)

I remember when he first brought this home, I pointed to the dots at the top of the cover and asked what that was.  He said, “We call that an ellipsis, Mom.”

Yep, that’s right, three periods in succession to indicate an intentional omission is called an ellipsis.  The things they are teaching kindergartners these days!

I’m not really sure what the words say, but this is never-the-less the fateful scene when Darth Maul gets cut in two.  Please observe the crossed out eyes indicating the deadness of Maul.  (Jude likes to use this indicator frequently in his drawings.)
