As if. I have a hard enough time keeping everyone fed and bathed around here, so no, we don’t have a legitimate pet.
But we have been “caring” for this:
Isn’t she a beaut?
I should have taken pictures before, in about a month it seems she’s quadrupled in size.
She had me from the moment I saw her beautiful web. Down the center, it looks like a zig zag stitch, just like on my sewing machine. Girl’s got style.
It’s so unusual looking, but it turns out it’s not very rare. These types of spiders – called Black and Yellow Garden Spiders, Writing Spiders, Corn Spiders, or Banana Spiders – are common around the US.
Josh was hell-bent on feeding the old girl last night. You know, in the name of science:
He’s trapping a grasshopper or cricket (above) while the boys watch. Please take mental note of Jett’s attire (far right) and realize that yesterday evening’s heat index was at least in the 90s. I can’t get that kid to wear appropriate clothing. More on that in another post.
Success!
This small, small, not-even-a-year-old child (I’m just saying that as much as I can while it’s still true), is spending more and more time on his feet, although he’s not walking quite yet:
Josh dropped the insect into the web (with tweezers – he didn’t want to get bit) and we all watched her spring into action:
The kids and I have decided to name her Jenny.

Is Jett wearing socks WITH sandals? Also, why is babby’s forehead all red?
Yes, socks + sandals. Just you wait. Seriously, tomorrow’s post will be a doozy.
Babby fell face first into the toy box and met a pointy something.
Plus, his knees look scratched! He’s too little to look this way! Great science lesson for the boys.
C’mon guys… it’s me! Everything is under control… always! He was crawling around on the ground, red knees happen. He’s tough.
We get those here… Beware, they get HUGE! I think I have pics of some on FB somewhere… very cool though.
Gross. Watch it? Feed it?? KILL IT!!!!! We get those stupid things in our HOUSE during the spring and fall….along with wolf spider and all kinds I don’t even know about. I’m doing my part to make them extinct. It’s people like you , Jess, that are keeping the species alive. Darn you!
We get a lot of wolf spiders in the house that all get dead. I like this one, it and it’s web are pretty. Plus, it’s on a bush near the garage. I want to see how long it will stay, I think it has already been there nearly a month.
I read this while standing on top of my chair far away from my computer scren, you know in case it crawled out of my monitor and on to my desk! EWWWWW.
Thank goodness for the Babby pictures, otherwise this would’ve been my least favorite post ever.
Still Shuddering,
PP
I bet Uncle Jacob will cringe too!
