Jace is 9 months

My tiny, tiny dancer.  Check that… son.  My tiny, tiny son.

Jace’s 9 month well child visit was not that great.  Poor kid, it wasn’t his fault, it was mine.  He was underweight, he wasn’t as long as he should be, his head size was ok, but his growth curve, well, it wasn’t curving as it should.  He was in the 7th percentile for weight.  SEVENTH!  Not 97th, not even 57th… just 7th at 17 pounds, 6 ounces.  He was in the 30s (%) for height.

Turns out, you need to feed a kid enough food & nutrients to help him grow.  Interesting!

Yeah, seriously, it basically came down to that.  I wasn’t feeding him enough.  Hey – in my defense, the kid rarely cries or complains.  He never acted hungry.  After his appointment I started incorporating more table foods into his diet, in addition to the fruits, vegetables and breast milk he was already getting.

That was about 4 weeks ago (I’m THAT terrible at timely blogging!) and the kid has put on at least 3 pounds since then.

You’d think I would have known better this being the 3rd kid and all.  Cripes.

Don’t be so hard on yourself… Sounds like he’s on the right track now :) And he sure looks happy in all of his pics!

I was going to say the same thing as Sarah – Don’t beat yourself up over this! I would have thought if Jace was hungry he’d cry too. And if it makes you feel any better, Joel weighed about 18 pounds at a year!!!

    I just love this picture

  • Those kids will worry you to death. Cora is small for her age. We went through a really rough few months not knowing what was wrong with her. She was not growing at all! Then we finally discovered she has food allergies. Got that out of my diet, through the breastmilk, and now she’s great. She’s still small but doing everything she should be doing and as happy as can be. Jase looks adorable. I say, if they’re happy and doing what they should be, it’ll be ok. This was my number 4 and couldn’t figure out what the problem was, so I know its hard on a mommy. Cora will just hang out with him at the bottom of the curve.
