My babby.
Jace is 10 months old today! I can hardly believe it.
He continues to be a sweet, sweet, happy child. As shown in the picture above, one of his favorite things to do is wave. I was just carrying him through the house this morning where we encountered our reflection in a mirror, and we stood there for MINUTES… just waving and smiling. He was very excited to see another person in the mirror waving just as enthusiastically!
Also, do you see his teeth? His two front teeth are coming in (it’s probably too early to tell now, but he might have a gap!) and so are the two on either side. His bottom teeth have been in for awhile. He doesn’t complain about much of anything so I don’t really know if they are painful. My guess would be no.
As I mentioned a few days ago in the 9 month update, he’s back on track with weight gain, unofficially. The clothes he was able to wear a month ago are too small and have been sold on Craigslist. Sayonara! Feels good to get rid of the unwanted and unneeded.
It could just be my imagination, but I think that Jace is saying “mama” more discriminately. And as for knowing the rest of his family, who cares? Just kidding, whenever he wakes up from naps , I pick him up from his crib and say, “Should we go find your brothers?” and he gets excited. Since Jude & Jett are almost always together in the same room when we find them, I ask Jace, “Where’s Jett?” and “Where’s Jude?” and watch his eyes to see if he knows which is which. My determination is no, I don’t think he knows the difference yet. He’s usually too busy waving ferociously at the first person he sees to care if there’s anyone else in the room, and to an even lesser extent, what that particular brother’s name is.
At all of his well-child visits, the doctor has told me that Jace’s greatest risks for injury are his brothers. Well, no kidding! I can’t tell you how many times a day I say, “Put him down!”, “He doesn’t like that!”, “Don’t put him on the couch!”, “Let go of him!”. The older boys do a pretty good job carrying him – they are strong enough – the problem comes when it’s time to put him down nicely and making sure it’s not on anything from which he could fall. But – wow! – does Jace ever love being transported from here to there by his brothers! I sometimes feel bad for putting the kibosh on all the fun when he’s grinning from ear to ear, bouncing along in their primitive holds.
Jace is NOT walking yet. I was worried there for a minute. A couple of weeks ago, I took him to the church nursery on Sunday morning. After the service, I went to get him and three separate individuals working in the nursery vouched that he had taken steps completely on his own! Without me! Well, we’ve tried to get him to do it again numerous times since then and he’s not even close. I’m pretending the whole thing never happened.
What else is there to say? I’m his favorite. He’s my favorite… favorite… favorite 10 month old son! What did you think I was going to say? I would NEVER pick favorites among my own flesh & blood. Definitely not me. But Jace doesn’t have such standards, and that’s why, without a doubt, I’m his.

Big boy teeth!
Jace is such a sweet little cookie!! I walked over to see him last night, he just gave me the biggest grin, never mind the food stuck on his face, his little hands, his chest and clothing. Grandpa Jamie was playing his guitar and Jace was doing a little sit-down shaking in his high chair, we know he was reacting to the music.
