Alright, since I’ve been back on the blogging wagon, I thought I’d update you guys on a recent accomplishment. After all, what’s meeting a goal if you can’t share it with others? Personal satisfaction? Psshha, right. Well here it is: it was a long time coming, but I finally made my goal weight about a month ago. I wanted to drop 26 pounds, and that I did. Originally, I wanted to get there by mid-February! Whoah, buddy. Not quite! It’s funny now to think how easy I thought it was going to be. Maybe my 23 year old self could have done it, but my 29 year old self needed much more coaxing.
To recap for anyone new to the blog, I started working out last November and bought personal training sessions at the beginning of the year. I met once a week for 12 weeks with my trainer; she gave me a new workout each week. After the 12 weeks, I started going back through the workouts doing each one 2 or 3 times before moving on to the next.
In addition to weight training, I’ve decided to start training for the half-marathon (13.1 miles) coming up in Des Moines in mid-October. Don’t worry, I have plenty of time to back out and I officially haven’t registered yet! Ha! That was one of the first things Josh said when I told him my goal: “I won’t hold you to it.” So, yeah, it’s pretty awesome to have his loving support and confidence. (He really does support me, but that was honestly the first thing out of his mouth.) I don’t blame him – I’ve never even ran an official 5k (unofficially many times), so am I jumping the shark? Just a little bit? Nah. I know with training I will be able to do it. Plus, I have a running buddy and that will help me a lot. The training program seems gradual enough and I’ve already started; the race is just over 4 months away. And now that I’ve just shared my goal here, I won’t want to be a major loser and back out.
I’m scared. It’s a huge challenge. I don’t particularly “like running”, but I feel like I need a goal to keep me motivated and interested in staying in shape. Cuss.

Not surprised. See you there! :)
It’s nice to have a running buddy. I did for Dam to Dam but won’t for the half… Good and bad in different ways.
You’re probably already aware, but Fitness Sports’ website has almost if not all races on it… I highly recommend Ethan’s Tractor Run as a great race, cheap and for a good cause. 5k distance and hilly. Plus, your mom can watch the kids. :) haha. It’s out at the jail and goes on Lincoln Way.
I have no doubt you can do the Half, and comfortably, with appropriate training. I did, and I am an asthmatic girl with a high heart rate who never ran until a year go. So I think you can, and have a great time doing so! :) Love ya!!!! And PROUD of you!!!!! You have accomplished so much! :)
