New parents

I’m not even sure how to adequately set up this series of photos.

We were new parents – first-time parents – what can I say?  Also, we were both very heavily influenced by Seinfeld at the time.

Enjoy:

Wow!  I can remember laughing hysterically while painting his little, helpless face.  *Evil laugh*.

Jude was so, so sleepy and we were drunk – wait, wait, wait a minute… lemme finish – drunk on the power of our authority over this human baby.

We were the ones in charge.  We made the rules.

And while this display of comic mischief masquerading as immaturity doesn’t have a lot to do with making the rules, no one could stop us from breaking ‘em.

Do the rules forbid applying liquid eyeliner to an infant’s delicate skin?

Don’t know.  Sorry.  Get a new rulebook.

At the time – if I remember correctly – no one, and I do mean no one thought this was as funny as we did.

The reactions were mostly hesitant smiles and little sighs of concern for our 16-day-old son.  Whateves.  He was fiiiiiine.

Here’s the hilarious clip of Uncle Leo from Seinfeld:

  • My favorite Zeigler new parent moment…EVER. And I did think it was hilarious, a bit concerning yes, but still hilarious. Just because we’re parents doesn’t mean we have to lose our sense of humor right? :)

I loved this then, and I love it now

I with you, Em, I thought it hilarious then and still do. I do remember some relative saying “I think they have too much time on their hands”, or some such thing.
He was a cute little guy, wasn’t he? Maybe you should do Jace for comparative reasons.

Wouldn’t it have been funny if someone had come to the door to see the new baby?
The scenario causes me to LOL right now.

Oh, this is our new baby, you say you think he looks like Inspector Clouseau?

For the record, your parents showed Will and I the pictures in secret. I don’t know if they were ashamed, but I do remember getting the feeling that we weren’t supposed to talk about it outside the walls of the Phipps home. But you had better believe that Will and I were excited to do similar absurd things to our own little bun in the oven.
