Two completely different topics within one post. That’s what you get when you don’t cross anything out.
Firstly, ice. Everything outdoors was coated in ice overnight. Josh made it into work alright driving slowly. School was cancelled, which means preschool was cancelled, too. We’re enjoying the day stuck inside. For whatever reason, I’m more productive on snow days. So I’m kabooming the crap out of the laundry today.
Here are a couple of pictures of the tree in our front yard heavy with ice:
Secondly, fitness.
Notice how I didn’t say “weight loss”? I’m going to try to not focus on weight-loss, even though that is still a goal. I’m becoming fitter. Happier. More productive. Comfortable…
One of my goals now includes only weighing myself once a week. I’ve succeeded the last two weeks in only weighing myself on Monday nights. I was getting too frustrated by weighing at different times of the day getting dramatically different reads and letting that dictate whether I was succeeding or not.
Overall, I’m down 13 pounds, which was the same update as a couple of weeks ago. Part of that could be eating too much over the holidays, part of that could be that the low scale reading a few weeks ago happened in the morning when now I’m going by my night weight. I know I’ve mentioned it before, the difference in my weight was 6 pounds less one morning than the night before. Urgh! See? That’s why I’m only weighing once a week now.
I want to tell you about my training sessions. I bought a package of 12 “do-it-yourself” training sessions. That means I’m meeting with my trainer once a week for 12 weeks for a half-hour each time. She writes out a list of exercises and shows me how to do them, and then throughout the week I do the list of exercises on my own about 3 times. I also do cardio on my own throughout the week, reporting back to my trainer at our weekly sessions. For me, this is ideal. It’s accountability and it’s allowing me to take better advantage of all the gym has to offer: I’m using the Swiss ball, the BOSU, free weights, weight machines, all of it, baby! Plus, after my 12 sessions, I’ll have 12 great workouts to continue doing on my own. The other thing I love is that the workouts are getting more and more challenging. I’ve only met with her 3 times, and this last workout, she got all Jillian on me. Wowza! I’m scared and excited for the next workouts!
I’ve been doing well on my water in-take this week, too. I’ve found another method that’s more helpful in tracking how much water I drink. Ready for this? I have 4 Aquafina bottles in the fridge. I wrote 1, 2, 3 and 4 on the top of the caps with a Sharpie. And then I drink the bottles in order. The bottles are 16.9 ounces each, so after I’ve drunk 4, I know I’ve had enough for the day. The last couple of days I’ve drank even more starting over with bottles 1 and 2…. When I’m done with a bottle, I refill it from my tap and put it back in the fridge. And the boys know the bottles with numbers on them are OFF-LIMITS! Maybe that will help someone else get their water intake. I find it easier for some reason.
There you have it! Comment here if you’re working on weight-loss or fitness goals. I want to hear how you’re doing! Trying anything new? Like Zumba? =)

I always hate being the first to comment; as if I’m sitting at my computer waiting for you to update!
I am on my third week of working out. I’ve yet to make it to the gym, but I’ve been doing it on my own at home with a Wii Training video. I really like it. I get to choose how long I work out, which area of focus to do, the music, the background. Overall, it’s going ….well. I need the cardio more than I do. I need to get to the gym. I need to see the pounds going down. For some, numbers on the scale mean nothing. They mean something to me. Along with that, of course, goes how well I feel. But my ‘long term goal’ is weight lose. I’ve seen no drop in the 3 weeks I’ve done. Needing to change up my diet a bit. I am very impatient with stuff like this, and usually give up if the scale isn’t my friend. But I’m sticking it out. Not sure how I’m maintaining it with no one around to keep me accountable, and I work out in front of my couch! I fight the urge to sit back and watch ‘Maya’ motivate me to better health! She gets in my head, that Maya. I think of her every time I go to grab a cookie, a pop, a piece of candy. I like that. But… I’ve learned how to block her out, too!
Great Radiohead reference :)
That’s a clever idea for water intake, I dig it.
I’m very impressed with your commitment to fitness! You ALMOST, JUST ABOUT make me want to maybe think about possibly working out more. But not quite. ;)
We had our last Christmas celebration this past weekend so I no longer have an excuse to eat poorly, and it’s been a hard adjustment. That water bottle idea is great! I don’t drink near enough. One thing I did was give up pop for the entire year. I miss it so much, but I feel really good. I’m also signing up for a 5k. If I sign up I HAVE to train for it. Well, hopefully that strategy works anyways!
I too am on the weight loss journey! As much as I dreaded it to start with I am loving it now. Eating healthier and going to the Y every day makes me feeling better, lighter and have tons more energy. It will be a long road a head but it needs to get done.
Good luck!
