Here’s an update: I’m down another two pounds since last week, making a total of nine pounds lost since November 10th. Hey! It’s been a month – I’m just now realizing that!
This week has been difficult because of all the snowfall we had in our area. Tuesday night I plain skipped out on going to workout because of the weather conditions and yesterday it was still hairy out there so I did some exercises here at home. I couldn’t quite match the intensity of the treadmill or elliptical machine, but I got some movement in.
Eating-wise I think I’m doing ok. I’ve stopped tracking every morsel of food that goes into my mouth. I hope that wasn’t a bad decision to quit tracking, but I was finding that as long as I wasn’t pigging out on the cookies and sweets, my normal food habits were mostly healthy.
I’ve been enjoying a lot of oatmeal lately. Something about the cold weather, I suppose. It makes me think of my dad. He used to (I don’t know – maybe he still does) make a ridiculously large serving of oatmeal in a casserole dish and call it an Oatmeal Grande. That is weird, right? And another weird thing? The last two times we’ve talked to Dad on the phone (first with Josh over the weekend and then with me tonight) he’s been in the middle of making cabbage soup. Charlie Bucket style. I don’t know, maybe they’ve fallen on hard times. Hot ham water. Oh, never mind.
I’m still struggling with the 8 glasses of water thing – I’m averaging 6 glasses now – but I’ll keep working on it.
9 pounds down, 17 to go!
How’s everyone else doing? Rocking it? Struggling? What’s your favorite healthful food this time of year? Say, that reminds me – I’ve also been eating squash. Lots and lots of squash. I eat about two entire butternut squashes a week. I cube it up and bake it with a little butter, salt and brown sugar, and yeah buddy! It’s good. I could always use more tricks up my sleeve, though, so lay it on me: good-for-you food… and go!

Woo-hoo, Jessie! Great job!
The squash thing – I loooove it too. I usually throw it in the crock pot all day on low instead of baking though. Just hit it all over with a knife (great stress relief) and put it in with a cup or so of water. It’s a lot easier to cut too.
Working out – I’ve started doing the Jillian Michaels DVDs. It’s intense. But it’s an awesome workout when you’re stuck at home. Whoo, 30 Day Shred!
I never thought of doing it that way, Amy! That sounds good – do you peel it first or wait until it’s cooked?
A good workout DVD would be nice to have on snow days, for sure. I watched the Biggest Loser finale the other night and – holy inspiration! I don’t know if I’d like Jillian screaming at me through the workouts, but the girl gets it done!
Awesome work Jessie! My personal update: terrible. I can speak on Amy’s behalf, she does love squash (or so I learned at Thanksgiving).
FYI, the 8 glasses of water a day is fairly controversial. A lot of new research has found that you don’t need near that much water (especially someone your size) for a number of reasons. First, you get most of your h2o from food and secondly it has been found to not necessarily help weight loss. Weight loss experts always advocate it to fill you up instead of food, i.e. drink two glasses before you eat so you won’t eat as much etc. etc.
I’m so glad science has caught up with my lack of willingness to drink so much water! =)
Congrats! I have jillians 30 day shred DVD however I think it’s been sitting on our coffee table still unoened for 30 plus days – Ruth and Lisa told me about it (not that they had any weight to loose:) hopefully I’ll crack it open here and start using it one of these days!
I think drinking water is SO important… it’s easier on your organs, it’s great for your skin, your immune system, your metabolism, your joints, your brain, your eyes, your energy level and it flushes out the bad toxins!
I had to work my way up to drinking enough though, but now I drink at LEAST 2 liters a day… plus other liquids like juice, milk, the Occasional beer (shhhhh, don’t tell!) etc…
And don’t forget, they’re generally talking eight 8oz glasses, not big, huge glasses. I’ve also heard that a good way to make sure each individual gets enough water for their own particular body weight is to drink half your weight in ounces… so if I weighed 100lbs, I’d need 50 oz/day… And, did you know your pee should always be clear, or almost clear? If it’s not, you’re not drinking enough! Ah yes, I’m very passionate about water intake, in case you couldn’t tell. ;)
Doh! Yes, there goes my contentedness. I find I drink much, much more water in the summertime and in warmer temps. Something about the cold weather here makes me want to avoid a cold glass of water. =/
Oh yeah, and great job so far! I’m proud of you… you’re WAY more ambitious than I am. I bet it feels great to be seeing your hard work and dedication paying off. Keep up the good work!
My diet consists of sodapop and candy. And coffee.
yeah, josh–that cup of coffee will do it!! that makes all the difference! it will take care of the soda pop(diet?)and candy!
I was at the dr’s office yesterday for the yearly check-ups and sneaked in a weigh in while the dr was out of the room. According to the dr’s scale, which I choose to believe over the Anytime Fitness scale (which I am convinced is up ten pounds just to make you feel fatter than you are and make you keep renewing your memberships), I have seven pounds to go to hit wedding weight!! Yep, I’m pumped. I haven’t worked out in three weeks, though. Wrestling season really screws up my life. Stupid highschoolers.
Yes! Jess, that’s great! Seven pounds will disappear in no time. Keep us posted. We want to celebrate with you. =)
