Well, the Christmas week is upon us. I’ve been keeping busy! Last weekend, however, we slowed our pace and had a most enjoyable weekend.
First of all, my mom had our older boys Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. It was awesome. I love a break from our kids, I think I may have mentioned that fact a time or two. It’s a powerfully beautiful thing.
I finished a quilt Friday night just in time to give it as a gift Saturday morning at a baby shower for a family that goes to our church. The couple adopted their first child after having her as a foster child since she was about 2 months old. The little girl just turned 1 and she’s adorable! Adoption stories make me scary emotional. I can cry just thinking about it. If I ever become an actress, I will think about a child being adopted and be able to cry on demand.
Saturday afternoon, Jace spent some time with his Grandma Jan. She had the honors of giving Jace rice cereal for the first time and also a bottle for the first time! It was the first time I pumped breastmilk for the little guy. I am told he had no problems whatsoever with taking a bottle, chugging the entire thing. Good to know. He liked his rice cereal, too. Here’s a picture of the happy camper:
And what was his absentee mother doing whilst these firsts were happening?
Getting my hair did. Not only a cut this time, people: highlights, too. And not just one color of highlights – two! Talk about a Christmas miracle. Yes, another first, friends!
As if all of this wasn’t exciting enough, Josh and I watched SIX movies over the weekend! Could this have been the first “movie mania” since we’ve had children? Possibly… I can’t think of another time. We ordered food twice (translation: no cooking) and enjoyed each others company for brief periods of time between movies.
To top off the stellar weekend, I was able to play volleyball for the first time in two years yesterday afternoon when a group of friends in town reserved the middle school gym for an hour. It was great.
And now I’m refreshed and ready to take on this busy week!

what a nice blog-that jace-he’s such a doll. can’t wait to see him again, Christmas eve….and of course, all of you!! :)
That weekend sounds absolutely fantastic!
Have a happy Christmas, can’t wait for you to blog all about it :)
I remember those days getting breaks from my kids, there was nothing better than seeing them go with my parents, I loved it. I didn’t even give my parents instructions, just gave them the necesseties and said as long as they are breathing when I get them back, I’m okay with that. I figured my Mom raised four kids over a 30 year period, she should be able to handle mine for a few days!! Glad you enjoyed your freedom and did some things for yourself, way to go!!!!
