Hopefully you guys remember this, otherwise I might only be writing for my sister Emily today.
I have just recently purchased a gym membership to Anytime Fitness. I’m needing some help getting these baby pounds off… and then some. Honestly, before I was pregnant with Jace I believe I was considered “overweight” according to what I should be for my height. Not quite sure why I used quotes around the word overweight. Maybe because I don’t want to “admit” it. Ok, I’ll stop now with the quotes. Anyway, I just completed my first workout and I’m feeling great.
BUT…
I’ve had this song in my head and I think it’s from Get in Shape Girl, which was a line of workout gear targeted for little girls from the late 80’s. Does anyone else remember it? Emily? Here’s a commercial:
The trouble is that I don’t know what this song I have in my head is from. I can’t remember if it was Get in Shape Girl or a Barbie workout tape. Here are the (partial) lyrics:
***
Do you want to know how to bop?
I can show you all how to bop, bop.
We can join together,
In bright or stormy weather.
The (something?) thing we’re doing:
Bop, bop
Bop, bop, bopping away…
Bop, bop
Bob, bop, bopping away…
Bop!
***
What in the world?! What is this from?! Can someone help me? Anyone?

I have no idea where this song is from, but I do know it’s terrible! :)
Good for you on the gym membership! I just recently started trying to get more exercise. Mostly I just walk… and not very quickly… but it’s better than nothing, right?
This video does not ring any bells for me… but those lyrics do. I can’t place where or what it came from but I know I’ve heard them before. Maybe a Barbie workout tape?? Maybe it will come to me…
Jessie, that is great!! Start slow with small changes is my advice – make changes that work for you that you can stick with. :) I really wish we lived closer to one another. Then we could motivate one another! I’m having lots of trouble with daylight savings time. I hate the fact that it’s dark by the time I leave work. It makes it so hard to go running – and I have a great treadmill, but would so much rather be outside. I have just had a hard time working out in general in the past 2 weeks. I’ll get over it! :) Press on, right?!
Have you looked at SparkPeople.com? It’s a free website that I LOVE – lots of wellness and fitness topics, and message boards that have been extremely helpful for me. You will do great! Enjoy yourself! :)
Keep motivated on the workouts. I joined Aspen almost two years ago and I really enjoy it and try to go 4-5 times a week. I had a personal trainer for about six sessions, which is when I lost some weight. Oh, I’d love some of those sessions again, but it’s too expensive. Strength training is important too, especially for “my age”. (Notice the quotations like you used in your blog.) Another friend of mine joined Sparkpeople and lost 43 lbs. She also loves the website.
I had the Get in Shape, Girl ribbon work out. You better believe I rocked a leotard, too. The bop, though??? Was it from Bop-it? Other than Bop-it, I can’t think of any games or commercials it could be from.
I am also a member of Anytime Fitness. It’s not just our names and our wild children that we have in common, after all! Sweet.
Good luck working out. My biggest struggle is finding a time to do it. I refuse to get up before Will goes into work at 5, and I despise the thought of showering more than once per day…oh the dilema.
That song is from Barbie and the Sensations. The cassette tape came with the doll. Released some time in the 80′s.
I found the song on youtube:

It is from Barbie, it was a pink cassette tape and that song was on it!
