Four-year-old preschool! Prime-time, baby! Not twice, but THREE times a week, and not for 2 1/2 hours, but THREE hours each time. Whoa, buddy, this kid is gettin’ schooled!
Jude started preschool today and Jett starts preschool tomorrow in the 3-year-old morning class. And I have started what will be a daily routine of getting everyone ready and out the door before 8:30 am M-W-F and 9 am Tu-Th. Think we can do it? Think I’ll be sick of it by next week? Being the optimist I am, I’m hoping the schedule benefits all of us, making the days smoother for the boys and in turn, myself. Structure is good. Structure is something I’ve never provided my children. I mean, outside of getting up in the morning, eating lunch around noon and going to bed at night. That’s some kind of structure, I suppose, but not much of it. Yeah, the new schedge will help. Wouldn’t it also be beneficial if I started a load of laundry first thing in the morning? Or run the dish washer every night before I go to bed? Or have the kids pick up their toys before letting them watch tv? All of these ideas are good but the enforcement is lacking. Definitely lacking.
I was a little worried right before we left the house before preschool because of this threat of a fit brought on by my refusal to let him wear a way-too-small shirt in favor of this nice, new shirt:
But, he soldiered through his disappointment and everyone left the house in good spirits.
We walked this morning to the church where preschool is held. I had Jace in a carrier/harness against my chest and held each of the older boys’ hands. It worked well. Jude did a great job at drop-off – similarly to last year – he couldn’t run off to class soon enough, no reservations at all. And when we came to pick him up after class, he walked out of the classroom in-line and perfectly behaved. He came right over to us with a smile on his face, eager to show me what he made and very proud that little brother Jace was there to see him, too.
Mommy was so happy! I made such a fuss over how proud I was of him and how happy he made me. He was able to choose what he wanted for lunch and got a sucker from his parade candy, too!
This photo is of him after returning from preschool… 4 years old and a success!

He looks so old!
My newest pet peeve is people who use the word “schedge”. Kidding! Your boys are rad. Congrats on school Jude!
Good call with the new shirt… that one is awesome!
He looks so proud of himself :)
I agree with Emily – he looks so old! All of you will do so fantastic with the new schedule. It will make your days fly by!
Super cute! He looks like a big boy!
