Life with baby

Things have been going really well here.  I am no longer fearful of being alone with my three children, so that’s a plus.  It’s actually been going a lot better than I anticipated.  The bigger boys have been keeping themselves entertained between playing with their toys and – let’s face it – watching television/movies.  Jace and I are getting into a better and better rhythm every day, and more importantly, at night, too!

Monday I took all of the kids to the doctor’s office.  Months ago, I’d scheduled Jude for his annual well-child visit (coordinates with clearance for starting another year of preschool) and that appointment was Monday.  It just so happened, that’s also the date they wanted to see Jace for his 2-week weight check, so I was able to get two appointments in with one visit.  We were there almost 2 hours because of our doctor running behind schedule, but the boys did extremely well and we all survived the trip.

Jude continues to top the charts with his height and weight.  He’s 44 inches tall and 43 pounds now.  The rest of him checked out fine, as well.  Jace was surprisingly “only” in the 75th percentile for weight and length at 2 weeks: 9 pounds and 14 ounces, 21 1/2 inches.  For being a ten-pounder at birth, I was expecting… I don’t know… a medal – no, no, just for him to be in the 90th percentile at least.  But what do I know?  He checked out fine, too.

Tuesday I received an unexpected treat when Josh’s dad called in the morning and asked if he could take Jett and Jude out to lunch at McDonald’s.  I was more than eager to agree to the plan, as you could imagine.  And the best part?  The lunch date turned into a whole afternoon… and I relished in the quiet house.  I held and nursed my baby without being in dual protection mode.  I cleaned in peace (which these days is a treat).  I watched tv.  I ate brownies.  By the way, if I knew what bon bons were or where to buy them, I’d probably have been sitting around eating bon bons, just for the record.  Where did that silly expression come from, anyway?

And then, Josh’s cousin Rachel and husband “Cousin Vinnie” and their son Will came for a visit bearing gifts and food.  What could be better?  I’ve just loved these visits from friends and family.  There is nothing like welcoming a new child with loved ones.  I’m going to miss this about childbearing.

Yesterday afternoon we received a visit from Prairie Princess and kids which was a treat.  The woman made me a peanut butter pie with a chocolate crust, and it’s delicious.  AND I still have lots leftover because I haven’t decided if I’m going to share.  She also made me a crockpot-ready meal which I will be sharing with you because she’s agreed to be my celebrity blogger and contribute a recipe article!  It will be posted soon, my pretties… soon.

Oh, and I almost forgot to brag on my littlest one: Jace slept for 5 1/2 hours straight Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.  It’s his personal best so far.  It’s amazing how consecutive hours of sleep compound the rest-factor.  You follow?  Go Jace!  Now if Mommy’s mammaries would follow suit and adjust to the longer sleep time, all would be right with the world.
