Best customer?

You all know how much I love Tropical Sno, right?  I’ve made no bones about it.  Well, you haven’t seen many other reviews of area Tropical Sno stands because I’ve found my TS home, and it’s a consistent 10.  No need to review each visit.

Last weekend my sister Emily came over to our house for supper.  Afterwards, just her and I made the drive to Van Meter to enjoy an icy treat.  When we got there, the owner/operator said, “Phew!  I’m glad you came!  My husband was just asking me if I’d remembered to tell you we’re going to be closed next week!”  Um, yeah.  The family is vacationing this week and they had posted a sign, but they weren’t sure that I’d seen it.  They know I drive a *ahem* short distance to get there, so they didn’t want me to make a wasted trip. Emily thought it was pretty funny.

Although slightly embarrassing that I’m there so much that they feel the need to personally notify me, it was a sweet gesture and one I appreciated.  Boy, these guys really knock it out of the park with customer service!  And I hadn’t read the sign (I might have seen it and not paid attention) so I was grateful for the heads up.  I would have been so sad to pull into that little parking lot and see a closed sign had I gone this week – and you better believe I would have.

Knowing I’d be going without for awhile, I stopped at the Mills Civic Parkway stand yesterday after running errands.  I pulled into the parking lot to see about 20 kids with a day care waiting in line.  Was I deterred?  C’mon, you know me.  No, I waited it out in my car, then saw another van full of kids pulling into the lot, so I hopped out of the car and waddled quickly to beat them in line.  I got my fix for now, but writing about it makes me want to drive the 40+ miles roundtrip to have it again.
