I’m so sad that my photographer isn’t here (Jude and Jett will be back tonight). I had to do the photo above self-timer style. You’re looking at the 3rd attempt and 3 was enough for me – I got most of my head and belly, so I called it good.
I had both of my appointments today; I’m happy to report they were short, sweet and smooth. The ultrasound revealed an estimated 8 pound little one! It was not as easy to see all his features as he was pretty smooshed in there (big difference than our ultrasound at 20 weeks!), but I got the biggest kick out of his chubby little fingers and toes. They looked just like those of a real baby! Oh wait… he is and I’ll get to touch them and kiss them soon. His measurements put him at 39 weeks – perfect!
Next was the midwife appointment. I only dropped 2 pounds, which I’m sure is all just water weight at this point. My blood pressure was excellent, baby’s heartbeat was in the high 140s and my uterus measurement was 39 centimeters for basically the 3rd straight week, which right now is just where it should be. No cervical checking occurred, so no update on that front. We’re just going to wait it out. And that’s really ok with me. I’m reasonably comfortable and I want this baby to come on his own, so I’m more than willing to wait.
Since the kids are still with their grandparents, I ran a few errands after my appointments. When I was at Wal-Mart, a sweet old Asian lady behind me in the checkout line took a look at me, smiled and said “That’s a boy.” I wanted to hug her. Is it racist, not politically correct, stereotypical to say I love Asian women? Eh, I don’t care, it’s true. Let me take this a step further to say I love Asian women who are older and matronly, whose native language is not English. In my previous job, I worked with several women who were from Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. They “adopted” me and cared for me in my early twenties. They were eager to share their food with me, include me in their circle, teach me words in their language. I miss them lots. Language was somehow never a barrier – there were too many smiles, too much laughter for that. Ah, memories of lovely people… and I’m sidetracked, but nothing more to report for now, so that’s ok!
Since I’m off topic anyway, I’ll take this opportunity to tell you that there are more exciting blog changes – er, additions – coming down the pike. Here’s a hint: my sister Emily is involved somehow, someway. BTW, a big thank you again goes to Emily and her spectacular new graphics – one for “The Tyler Forret Speaks” graphic and the other for the new favicon (small icon that should be appearing in your browser tab), oh and my new gravatar, which I shall comment to this post just so you can see. Yep, that Emily is a bundle of talent: available for weddings and bar mitzvahs, just so you know.

Check out my new gravatar! *insert face-melting, air-guitar riff here*
