As a stay-at-home mom, the worst days for me are the Saturdays that Josh has to work. I can’t get over it being a weekend, and weekends automatically mean family time. I miss Josh more than I normally do during the week. But, hey – it only happens every third Saturday. It could be every Saturday or every other Saturday, so I’ll consider myself blessed. And while I’m counting my blessings, at least the man has a job.
In anticipation of the dreaded Saturday alone with the kids and no plans, I called up my mom Friday night and asked if she had any plans. She didn’t so we invited ourselves over to their house. First thing in the morning after we woke up, we headed up for the day.
The boys just love going to their house. The change of scenery was great for me, too. Jude and Jett have certain things that they love to do at Abba’s. Jett likes to bake cookies with her, they both like to take baths there. She’s got way more bath toys and it’s more of a fun event than at our house where it’s all business. They have certain toys they need to play with, certain movies they like to get out even though they don’t always watch. Since they spend a lot more time there than I do these days, it’s fun for me to observe them in their element.
Later that afternoon, I ducked out of the ‘rents house with my brother to get a Tropical Sno. All of you know what Tropical Sno is, right? Shave ice with syrup. I don’t know why they don’t call it shaved ice. It’s always been bothersome to me. Years ago, there used to be a seasonal Tropical Sno stand in our town, but sadly no longer. I love TS as we lovingly refer to it, but because there isn’t one close anymore, it’d been years since I had enjoyed one.
Well, the execution was a little bit tricky. I knew the sugary syrup would most certainly give me reflux, so I had to prepare. Mom & Dad didn’t have any antacids in their house so I had to come up with another plan. I’d stop at Wal-Mart first. Yes, that’s what I’d do. Jacob didn’t mind the extra stop, so that’s what we did. I found Pepcid AC chewable tablets in mint flavor (it’s a new flavor). I’m not kidding when I tell you they are delicious! Seriously smooth and refreshing. I love them and will continue to take them after I need them, probably.
As we were leaving Wal-Mart we ran into our cousin Tracie. Let me tell you, EVERY time I go to that Wal-Mart, I see someone I know. Tracie’s high school aged son works at Tropical Sno and that’s where we told her we were headed. She’d just dropped Tyler off to work, so I knew I was headed for a big payoff. Family gives family extra syrup, right?
Tyler and his coworker really came through. I got a cherry limeade flavor, in a medium size. Delicious. But now I’m like the dog who got into the henhouse. I’ve got that taste of “blood” so to speak and it’ll be difficult for me to stay away. I’ve located the nearest TS to our home and I’ve set my sights on it and I’m taking it down.
What about you guys? Do you love Tropical Sno? As much as I do? I’m going to say something rash here. Ready? I like Tropical Sno more than Dairy Queen. And I’m not just saying that because of my current rough patch with ice cream. I really mean it, guys.
More on our Saturday later.

I haven’t gotten Tropical Sno yet this year but you’ve made me hungry for it! :)
you are speaking to my heart. i have a love affair with the great TS as well. the only one i know of around here is the one on douglas by that dQ and the blue sky bakery…or whatever it’s called. phillippe and i actually created our own flavor there many years ago. it was at the one here in town and it was called ‘yoda’. the star wars movie just came out and it was a green sno, so that’s what we came up with . green apple, pineapple, and coconut. my mouth is watering as i type. if you ever need a ts run, give me a call. seriously, i’ll drop whatever i’m doing.
My sister-in-law worked at a Sno for four or so days about three years ago. I thought I was going to get the hook up, you know? Not so much. I have snubbed TS ever since. This shameless plug has cracked the wall I had built around myself. Jessie, you may have just changed my life for the better. I’ll let you know.
