We met Mom & Dad at a movie theater about half-way between our two towns to watch the movie Up with them. We also took my mother-in-law along with us – she actually wanted to see the movie and was glad to have kids to go with!
It was Jett’s first movie theater experience and Jude’s second after seeing Wall-e last year. Jett took the whole thing in stride. He acted as though he’d done it before.
One cute thing happened when we walked in: the boys went directly up to the ticket counter and asked for their glasses. I was surprised they actually had listened to us when we talked about needing glasses to watch the movie.
They were so excited they could barely sit still! What else is new, right?
Grandma Jan helped to contain Jude while we waited for Josh to get refreshments.
The theater we went to was only showing the movie in 3D. It ended up being fine – I wondered if the kids would be able to keep their glasses on. They sure did. In fact, Jude’s been wearing his off and on all day today.
We were surprised by how many 3D movies are scheduled to be released in the next year.
I loved the story and characters in Up. I didn’t know much about the movie going in. As I was sitting there in the dark of the theater with my dark glasses on, I couldn’t help but let a solitary tear roll down my cheek at one point of the movie – thinking to myself how ridiculous it was. These are animated characters, Jessie, totally created in someone’s imagination. It’s not real! And then a minute later, I casually wiped my cheek thinking no one would ever know.
I’ve liked all the Pixar animated features, and this one was no different.
Not wanting to separate from the grandparents so soon after the movie, we took the party to Dairy Queen.
I – virtually unable to digest ice cream these days – had a cherry Arctic Rush, thank you very much.
Here is Jude trying to give himself an ice cream mustache. And can you guess why?
Moments later Dad playfully touched his ice cream cone on Jude’s nose when Jude asked for a bite. Not wanting to be left out, Jett asked for ice cream on his nose, too. But instead he got this:
Yep, right in the eye. And Jett cried. And Dad felt really bad. But a minute later and all was forgiven.
And then Jett bawled as we separated from them because he wanted to go home with them. And then he begged Grandma Jan to go to her house. Anywhere but home, I gathered. And then both boys fell into a deep sleep and all was forgotten.

Up was an adorable movie! We saw it in 3D too :-)
You weren’t the only one trying to hide the tear behind the 3-D glasses! I had one coming from each eye. I think Josh’s cheeks were moist too.
Were not!
i heard Up is sad! geez… when i see it, i will be tearing up right along with everyone else!
Glad you had ‘success’ at the movie!!! yeah, it starts off kind of sad, but does have a great moral to the story!!! and i can’t wait to see the hamster 3d movie next year!! that one looks totally 3d!!!!
