Josh and I decided to go ahead and have Jett’s tonsils removed.
Since our ENT consultation last month – when we decided to wait 6 months to reassess – we’ve been paying more attention to Jett’s symptoms and feel like now is the right time to do it.
Jett still hasn’t been sick, but his sleeping habits have become more and more of a concern. I’m almost sure it’s not that his condition getting worse, I think it’s just us paying closer attention since having been to the doctor about it. I haven’t listened close enough to hear him actually stop breathing, but I often hear him gasp and then fidget to find a better position.
It’s that gasping that I don’t like.
Jett goes to bed at the same time as Jude does, but in the morning when they both roll out of bed, Jude is raring to go, and Jett stumbles into our room for part two. He usually sleeps 1 1/2 or 2 hours more until he’s ready to get up. In addition, he’ll nap in the afternoon a couple of times a week. It could be that they are just different kids and one requires more sleep than the other. Or it could be that Jett isn’t getting the restful sleep he needs to function.
Yesterday morning I called the ENT’s office and told the receptionist what we were thinking, and she transferred me to the doctor’s nurse to leave a message. I described what was going on to the nurse in the message. She called back in the early afternoon and in a conversation that spanned all of 90 seconds, we had a date scheduled and I got little to no information about what this procedure all entails. She said she would send me all the information I needed by mail, which might be just as well – I’ll sit down and review everything and then call back if I have any questions.
The big day will be Friday, June 26th, which is less than 2 weeks from now. When scheduling, the nurse asked if we had any vacations or anything to schedule around. :) Um, no, but I do have a baby due in (hopefully) 8 weeks or less. The surgery center should be calling us the day before to tell us what time to show up. The nurse said they schedule the youngest kids first, so hopefully we’ll get an early morning time.
Josh is going to take the day off for surgery and my mom has offered to take Jude for several days. She sounded excited to only have one of them. They usually come as a package deal; and apparently, I’d told her previously that she can take both of them or neither of them! She remembers this, but I have no recollection of such a conversation. It’ll probably work out for the best with Jett here and Jude there, they tend to get a little wild and crazy when they’re together, and when Jett’s recovering I’m going to try to keep him as relaxed as possible.
