Another pregnancy update

You guys may be completely sick of my pregnancy by the time I deliver.  And to that I say: you and me both!

The midwife appointment today went great – I’m really glad I’m going to that group.  There’s just something so special about them.  The ladies in the office make a fuss over the big boys and talk about the baby to be born with excitement – like it’s a special occurrence… which it is!   I find it heartwarming and wonderful.  Josh thinks it’s a chick thing.

I gained 2 pounds since my appointment 2 weeks ago, so that was perfect – I was relieved about that.  I’m still measuring right on track, too.  We talked about laboring and the delivery and I’m encouraged to know they have techniques and methods of managing pain in labor that will be unlike anything I’ve tried before.  I was on my back tethered to my hospital bed for each of the other births, and anything sounds better than that!

I found out that our insurance covers a breast pump, and between Jett’s upcoming tonsillectomy and delivery at the hospital, we’ll have met our family deductible, so that’s good news.

Let’s see… what else… oh yeah, the midwife told me she didn’t recommend me drinking beer.  And yes, I actually asked if it would be ok.  Now, let me preface this by saying that never in my life have I enjoyed the taste of beer.  And let me also tell you, in college, I desperately tried to like beer.  Sad but true.  But now, I’m craving the bitter taste (it that the hops?).  I had Josh pick up some Bud Light Lime beer on the way home from work yesterday.  Hey, I googled it first and the consensus was one glass of beer or wine with supper was ok.  But, it looks like now – upon the advice of my midwife – I’ll just have to sip when Josh has one cracked.  Sorry if this information disappoints any of you – I’m just speaking the truth.  And thankfully, I’ve cut down to a pack and a half of smokes a day, so that’s good.  Alright, now I’m just messing with you.

And there you have it!  My next appointment is in 2 weeks and then I’ll go every week.

Alright, moms out there – did you have any cravings while you were pregnant?  Let me hear from you.  Pickles and ice cream?  Anything unusual?  I really can’t remember any cravings with the other pregnancies.  I’m not saying I didn’t have any, I just don’t remember.  It’s amazing what you forget.  I had plenty of aversions that I still remember, but nothing in the cravings department.  I also wasn’t joking earlier this week when I said that I need another Tropical Sno.  Soon.  Amanda, be expecting a call in the near future.  I think the closest one is on Ashworth.  Hmmm… I wonder if they have a beer flavored syrup there at TS.

To the amazement of my husband, I craved black beans right out of the can! It sounds gross to me now. I also craved peanut butter and steak…but not together. All protein cravings. I thought of sweets made me sick to my stomach. I never had any morning sickness and gained 18 lbs.

First of all, I could never get sick of your updates!
I’m glad everything is going so well… your midwife group sounds great.
Maybe you could try non-alcoholic beer?
I adore beer (sorry, but I honestly do) however, I couldn’t stand the smell of it throughout most of my pregnancy and didn’t miss it at all… at least not till the very end.
I had a few months where I’d dip a spoon in a jar of molasses and eat it. I’d forgotten about that until just recently. That had to be a pregnancy thing, cuz the thought of doing that now basically disgusts me.
I did acquire a taste for chocolate which I’d never cared for before… and now I don’t know how I survived without it all those years! I blame the chocolate for the almost 40 lbs I gained… and the fact that I still have 5 to lose!

I tried really hard to like beer also, and now I do – but only after my trip to Europe in April. That’s what happens when beer is cheaper than pop! I still don’t love it, but I do like a Sam Adams every once in awhile. :)

    Glad your appointment went well!!

  • Taco Bell and Chili’s chips & salsa which I would waddle in and order from the to go counter on a frighteningly frequent basis just for a snack, oh and eat the ENTIRE bag! And all sorts of other things that tasted so good going down but not so good when I couldn’t sleep and thought I was going to die from acid reflux. Unfortunately, they hadn’t invented your yummy Pepcid chewables back then.
I seem to remember you thoroughly enjoying second hand smoke during your first pregnancy. Remember asking Marsha to smoke in the car w/ the windows rolled up? Seriously. But maybe that’s not just during pregnancy, maybe you’re just a closet second hand smoker? :)

  • PP, it’s not just pregnancy, I enjoy second hand smoke. I used to like going out to the smoking dock at the old credit card center during my breaks and it doesn’t bother me at all if someone smokes in the car. I just love the smell of a freshly lit cigarette, but not like a bar or smoking section of a restaurant used to smell pre-smoking ban. I also like the smell of gasoline. Is that wrong?

I like that first smell of smoke too, but then I get over it.

I craved chewing on ICE like no other. I told my husband he should be glad it was such a cheap craving. I went through 2 5lb bags a week the last 3 months I was preggo. But then I chipped a tooth and had to get it fixed after I had Harper. So much for being a cheap craving.

With Henry I craved Mexican. Much more beneficial for RJ since he could enjoy that one too.

With Judah, I craved mac and cheese with m&m’s thrown in. Gross, right? With Liam, I ate a ton of popcorn with chocolate chips. I don’t remember anything specific with Mayah, but with all three of them I drank gallons of chocolate milk. I would make Will stop at our gas station and buy me a quart. I would then drink it right out of the carton.

Please notice that all of my cravings were super unhealthy…hence the 40+ weight gain with all three of them. Why couldn’t I crave ice???
