Loose Threads

  • I did edit the video I posted yesterday.  I reinserted it into yesterday’s post.  The new video is shorter (with the non-song shenanigans removed) and the correct lyrics are added, scrolling across the video – oh boy!  Or click here for the new version: Zeigler rendition of the Fifty Nifty United States.

  • I get to visit my midwifey again today, or at least one of them.  Wait, have I not posted that story yet?  I just realized that I was going to post about it, but looks like other items of interest have usurped the topic.  I’ll break it down:  I’ve had 2 fairly normal deliveries so far which makes me a good candidate for a midwife.  I’m interested in using birthing techniques other than being strapped to the bed with pitocin this time around (if it can be avoided).
  • The good thing for me about using this midwife group is that the delivery will be at the same hospital where we had the other kids.  Also, the doctors that sponsor this midwife group are the same doctors that I’d been seeing previously.  So if anything doesn’t go according to plan and a doctor takes over, it will be a doctor that I’ve seen before.  If I choose, I may have drugs and/or an epidural while under the midwife’s care.  The few significant differences will be the midwife will be with me during the active labor and of course, delivery.  The other major difference I’ve noticed already is the preventative measures that are taken, discussed in prenatal care.  For example, during my last appointment with the midwife, we talked extensively about diet – which foods I should be eating now (PROTEIN!) and which foods I should be avoiding (some carbs & sugar).  This is a conversation that I’d never before had during any of my prenatal OB visits with any pregnancy.  I’ve really taken the diet advice to heart and it’s been a much more comfortable last month because of it, in my opinion.  I’m not having the heartburn & fatigue and I’m just in general feeling better.  The goal is to keep my blood pressure down (it was a problem during my pregnancy with Jude) and to keep the baby at a healthy weight.

  • We had a success yesterday with potty training Jett (finally!).  He went to the bathroom all by himself without me having to ask him to go.  We’re on week 3 (at least) of using training pants – no diapers (except at night).  It’s been really tough, and I’m already looking forward to not doing it again for another 2.5 – 3 years.  But to have Jett mostly trained before baby comes will be great.

  • We’ve come up with another give-away to do tomorrow with Josh’s second post of his Favorite Songs countdown.  Considering less than 5% of you commented (according to our stats for the day), we’re giving away a prize with wider appeal.  That’s the hint, you’ll have to check back tomorrow for details.

Congrats on the potty training. Like my mom always told my brothers and sisters about their kids, no groom/bride has ever gone down the aisle wearing diapers! I know that the changing and cleaning gets old, though!

I really enjoy just listening to the songs and the exposure I’m getting to something that I never would listen to other wise. Other than a Jack Johnson (or, is it John Jackson?) CD my now 22 yo nephew got a Christmas or two ago that I really liked and have added to my collection, I’m rather stuck in my country which replaces what used to be rock!

    Rock on (or whatever!) Josh!
