Jude had his first-ever preschool program! It was farm-themed. It was precious. It made us very proud of him.
Here’s the lone decent picture I have of him and I only have this because my sister was nice enough to take it for me. I was recording the show on my Flip. But if you can pick him out between the heads, he was wearing a straw hat, a red handkerchief, his John Deere t-shirt and his cowboy boots (not pictured).
A couple of things I loved about the program: it was oh, so appropriate on time. These are (mostly) 3 year olds, people. They sang a bunch of really cute, short songs and then they were done. The whole thing wrapped up inside of 10 minutes. Perfect.
Also, the church/preschool hosted a fundraiser dinner afterwards. The food was good and our parents (plus Emily and Dylan) got to stay and chat for awhile longer.
I’ll be honest. I was concerned about how Jude would handle the situation: being on stage, singing songs. He did great. Much better than I anticipated. He sat still and participated! Almost the whole time! The second to last song they sang was described as a little finger play. The children were busy making motions along with the story. The story happened to end with each child being “stung by a bee”. Immediately following that performance, Jude jumped up and ran off stage, down to one of his teachers who was coaching the kids from the front pew. I held my breath. And then I learned that there was only one song left. Not too bad. The last song they sang is called the “Goodbye” song – one they sing at the end of preschool each day.
After the program had officially ended, the kids were dismissed to find their families. Of course, we congratulated Jude on how great he did and started making our way together through the dinner line that was moving somewhat slowly.
By the time we got closer to the counter where the food was being served, the preschool teacher to whom Jude ran during the performance, stuck her head out of the kitchen and told my father-in-law something that made him laugh. He relayed the message to the rest of us: Jude had run off the stage to tell Mrs. Smith about the bee sting he received! Boy, talk about playing the part! We thought it was so cute and better explained why he did so well most of the time and then abruptly ditched the rest of his classmates on stage.
Also, as we were eating, the preschool director came over to our table to tell us she thought Jude did a great job. She also told us that when they rehearsed the program, they didn’t rehearse the goodbye song, and so Jude thought that the program had ended with the last song they had rehearsed earlier. Oh well. She got a kick out of the other reason he left the stage, too.
We couldn’t be more proud of our boy! Even when on numerous occasions during the program, he appeared to be giving “the wink and the gun” to members of our family he located in the pews. He wasn’t, it’s just how he points, but it certainly looked like it to everyone else, I’m sure.
Speaking of this boy – our oldest (I can write that now that there’s a third on the way) – turned F-O-U-R – count ‘em – 4 yesterday! Another post on that including pictures coming soon!

Cute!
