Yes, another post on Jude today. We celebrated his fourth birthday over the weekend – with just us guys for now, and another birthday party in a few weeks for Jude AND Jett with extended family on both sides.
Josh had the great idea to make a cake with Jude. Jude picked out his own cake mix and frosting at the grocery store, and they made it Saturday night. Sunday afternoon Josh frosted it and Jude added the sprinkles. And THIS is the finished product:
As you can see, we were a little heavy on sprinkles on some parts of the cake, but it was delicious! I’m glad my boy likes chocolate. He chose chocolate cake and chocolate frosting, bless his heart!
Sunday after church I made lime chicken soft tacos (delicious, I might add) and told Jude that when he was done eating he could open his gifts. Wouldn’t you know it took him one hour to eat one taco? It’s not that he didn’t like the taco, it was more like he was too distracted and excited to just sit down and eat!
Luckily, the (slow) timing worked out just perfectly and Jan & Doug – my in-laws – were able to join in the gift opening and cake eating.
And as long as this is just a phase – this birthday will go down as the “what the heck?!” birthday. While opening each of his gifts, Jude would say, “What in the heck is this?” The line was delivered in a cute and playful way, and not a snobby way. He was genuinely trying to figure out what each one was half way through the unwrapping. It was hilarious. And then after the 6th time of saying it, I started to really wonder if he picked that phrase up from me.
Probably.
Josh shook the pan to spread the sprinkles more evenly around. Jude blew the candles out one at a time.
And after the cake. See all of the crumbs under the table? That’s from one birthday boy. One piece of cake. One big mess!
I should make a post of his likes and dislikes right now in his life like I did here, well over a year ago. That will be an activity for another day. Even though it was only a year ago, I don’t think I could have remembered all of those things if I didn’t have them written down.

I’d like to get my hands on those lollipop rings! (I’m sure Josh would too)
