Baby update

Last Friday I had my latest baby appointment.  I’m 18 weeks now.  Everything went great once I got there…

I loaded up the kids in the car to bring them along.  Since the appointment was at 1 pm, Josh was going to take a late lunch break and wait with the boys in the car (after he got drive-thru, of course) while I went to the appointment.  So much easier than finding a sitter.

So, as I was saying, I began to load the kids.  The doors were locked and my key fob wasn’t working when I tried to unlock the doors.  Hmmm, that’s weird, I thought.  I manually unlocked my door and then tried to unlock the rest of the doors using the auto lock/unlock from within the car.  And that didn’t work.  I had to manually unlock all the doors to get the kids inside and ready to go.

Then I tried to start the car.  I got a big, fat nothing.  The battery was completely dead.

I immediately knew what had happened.  Since it was so nice outside the day before, we’d been playing out in the yard.  Jett disappeared temporarily only to reappear in my car, wildly playing since he knew his time was limited once I found him.  I opened the passenger door and dragged him out.

About an hour later when Josh came home, he noticed that the drivers side door was completely open.  I didn’t even notice.  Phew, I thought, that was a close one.

Well, turns out that not only was the door open for an hour, but Jett also left a cabin light on.  We didn’t catch that, so it was on all night.  It must have been a combo of these events that drained the battery.

I called Josh right away.  He suggested that I call his dad.  Luckily, my father-in-law works in our town and was able to leave at the drop of a hat.  He showed up not even 5 minutes later, jumped the car, and off we went.  I’m so thankful we have family so close!

I also called my OB’s office to tell them the situation and asked if they could still fit me in, even if I was late.  They said no problem.

I made it to the appointment at 1:02!  I couldn’t believe it.  I didn’t even have to wait in the waiting room, since I was the first appointment after the lunch hour.  Nice!

The baby’s heartbeat was 144.  It took a few seconds to find the heartbeat, and when I finally heard that swooshing sound, my first thought was, “Oh, there she is!”  What is wrong with me?  Why am I doing this to myself?!  I have no idea if it’s a girl or not.  I can’t tell if I really have a feeling or if my mind is playing tricks on me.  I was convinced Jett was a girl just because the pregnancy was so different, but I know better this time.

My weight gain has slowed down, too, for the time being.  Thank goodness!  And my blood pressure is right where it should be – I watch that because it was so high with my first pregnancy.

The last thing we did was schedule my next (and probably last) ultrasound.  It will be Wednesday, March 25th in the morning.  Hopefully the baby will cooperate and we’ll get to see the gender.  It’ll be at the same office as the early ultrasound was, so I’m even more excited knowing how clear the images were last time.

And now you’re caught up!
