Updates

Last night went much more smoothly with the boys at bedtime than the night before.

I didn’t let either one of them sleep during the day, so they were both really ready for bed and didn’t have any energy to play.  Actually, Jett fell asleep on the couch listening to music.  I was at Bible study but Josh said that he was getting really tired and hid behind the chair in our front room crying for me.  Josh asked if there was anything Daddy could do for him and Jett asked to listen to "Hey Jude".  Josh played it for him and then Jett asked for Wolfmother.  It’s a band – you can about guess what they sound like by the name.  One song in particular is Jett’s favorite: "Woman".  When he hears this song, he usually springs up and runs in circles.  Not last night.  He started nodding off so Josh put him in bed.  This was a little before 8.

Jude was an exceptionally good boy throughout the evening so Josh awarded him by allowing him to stay up later than Jett.  When Josh put him to bed a little before 9, he went down without a fight.

It was nice, but I don’t think we’re ready to put a "W" in the column just yet.  Josh and I are going to revisit the routine.  In our case, maybe more the discipline administered when they misbehave at bedtime, because the routine itself is pretty consistent.  How we respond to it is not always consistent.  They get a consequence, but maybe we could be more clear with them as to what that consequence will be.  Taking their night light out of the room is usually the last straw, so maybe we’ll make that the first straw and enforce it without arguing.  Man the door until they know things are going to be different.  Take back control!!  I’m ready.

(Thanks for your comment yesterday, Alisa.  It’s helpful to know what works for others and then look for ways to adapt it for our situation!)

In *me* updates, I made a meal from scratch last weekend!  It had been a long time since I’d done that, regrettably.  Most everything we were eating came from the freezer in packaged meals.  Maybe that had something to do with the ol’ weight gain, too?  Probably.  But I’m getting better at keeping up around the house as I’m feeling better and better.

Lasagna tonight, honey. :)
