10 pounds

True confession time.

The good news is that Josh and I went to our first pre-natal appointment Friday afternoon.

The bad news is that I gained a lot of weight.  Ten pounds in 10 weeks.  And let’s be honest, a girl doesn’t know she’s pregnant for the first 4 weeks.  Not off to a great start in that area.  In related news, I wore maternity jeans for the first time yesterday.  Hello, elastic waistband!  It’s like wearing sweatpants without the social stigma.

My dad called me after the appointment and I told him how surprised I was at the early weight gain.  He pointed out that all the Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks I have consumed aren’t exactly a low calorie food as they are meant to be a meal replacement and not a pre-breakfast snack.

Point taken.  Although it doesn’t mean I’m going to cut back because I’d rather gain weight than start puking.

But the great thing that trumps the silly scale?  We also heard the baby’s heartbeat.  I was truly happy.  I was preparing myself for not being able to hear it, but I was so happy that we did.  It was a strong little heartbeat, but I started giggling and then we lost it.  They were sweet, precious seconds.

Our first ultrasound is scheduled for a little less than 2 weeks from now, and I can’t wait to see that little one!  And then our next prenatal appointment will be 2 weeks after the ultrasound, so things will hopefully move quickly over the next month to catapult me into the second trimester.  That would be lovely.

How exciting you got to hear the heartbeat!!!
And don’t worry about the weight gain, just be glad you’re not yacking anymore!

that’s exciting! makes it more real, don’t ya think??? girl, you’re making me have ‘the itch’!

  • Jessie, so fun to hear that little heartbeat, definately a relief and joy, isn’t it. Your journey is going to be fun and exciting, I know it doesn’t matter what you have, but I secretly hope you get a little girl to pass your quilting gene onto, that would be awesome, but 3 little boys wouldn’t be so bad would it? Whatever God has planned will be perfect. Take care, Barb

    Jessie,
How exciting!!! So, what’s your instinct, boy or girl? I have to say by looking at the placement of the stars and moon, has to be a girl:) And the 10 lbs., don’t sweat it! Your baby needs a weight gaining mamma – and if it means much at all, Owen helped me pack on the pounds the first 3 months, then it slowed down. However, the last month, I gained 3 lbs. a week, no joke! Enjoy having an excuse to wear those elastic waisted pants:)

    Talk to you soon,
    jackie
