Stay away!

Yucky!

We had our first run-in with pink eye as parents.  Monday afternoon Josh and I noticed Jude’s eyes looking bloodshot.  He was rubbing them and having some discharge, too.  I thought it might be pink eye right away.

Here’s how he looked:

Around 1 am Tuesday morning, he stumbled into our bed, eyes sealed shut.  It took me about 10 minutes to get all the goobers out of his eyes enough for him to open them both fully.  Poor kid.  He went back to bed and by morning his eyes looked like this:

The one bad thing about having lots of thick and plentiful eye lashes!

The nice thing was that the doctor’s office took my word for it and called in a prescription without an office visit.  It saved us a trip and a $20 co-pay.  I’ll take it.

Jude was excited about getting medicine because he loves the taste of Motrin and Tylenol, but he became less excited about the ointment to be squirted in each eye three times a day for five days.  He has been fighting me at every application.

Here’s after just one dose:

The bummer: Jude had to miss preschool because of his pink eye AND to top it all off, it was his turn to bring treats.  Oh well, he’ll get another chance.  I actually dropped off the snacks anyway at preschool, and they told me they would save the applesauce cups for another time so Jude could have the privilege of passing them out to his friends.  How sweet.

Any bets on how soon Jett gets this sticky affliction?

  • Hey Jessica, it won’t be long before the other little guy gets it. I had pink eye once when I worked at the daycare center, nasty stuff, your eyes itch so bad and you can’t or aren’t supposed to touch them, I totally have sympathy for him. Its is very contagious so it probably won’t take long before Jett gets it, oh well, they still play and act fine, its just looks icky. Take care and wash your hands lots and lots so you don’t get it,its no fun. Barb

I remember having Pink Eye as a young lad. You will not believe how I got it treated. My grandpa took aloe plant cactus leaf, cut it across a cross section and then squeezed the juice into my eyes. I can remember tasting the juice as it trickled into m…
