My mole and me

My mole and me have been together for such a long time.  I was just going through old pictures (only digital ones on the computer, I don’t want to get up and look for others) to see how much if at all my mole has changed over the years.

Here’s the oldest picture I could find taken in September of 2001.  It’s hardly noticeable (above my left eye).  Also, it’s not the best picture because of the position of my head.  My mole looked so light in color – we were carefree then, my mole and me.  But, wasn’t my boyfriend a badass?  Earrings (two in one ear, mind you) and sideburns that would make Luke Perry jealous.

Exhibit B: Our engagement photo taken in February of 2003.  A little better mole shot.  Slightly darker in color, but it was ok, my mole didn’t give me any trouble.  We thought we were going to live out our last days together, my mole and me.  BTW, I need to show you guys some more of these engagement photos.  Oh my goodness!  The out-takes.  Scary and soooo funny!

And then yesterday in our last hours together, my mole and me.  I’m giving my best sour/tough face.  See?  Mole is much bigger and darker.  And I have new haircut for those of you who haven’t seen me in a week.

But, really, I wasn’t bothered by my mole aesthetically.  It’s my heritage, my birthright.  My family (affectionately?) calls – sorry, called… oh boy, this is going to be harder than I thought, mourning is a process – it my Grandpa Fred mole.  My Great-Grandpa Fred had a mole on his forehead that by the time he reached his 90s, was VERY prominent.  So, the fam would tease me that mine was going to get that big.  And as my sister said, it’s my signature.

Last weekend was the first sign of trouble.  I awoke to pain… in my mole.  Weird.  I gave it about a day, and it actually got worse and it looked to me like it was growing and red.  I called the My Nurse phone line and they wanted me to go to a walk in clinic to get it looked at, even though it was Saturday.  So I did and was given an antibiotic.  The clinic doctor made an appointment for me at a dermatologist and so I went today.  The mole did put up a fight… required more lidocaine, but after another shot, didn’t have anything left.  So now it’s gone… off to pathology to make sure it’s normal.  Never to be heard from again.

I shall post a mole-less picture after I heal.
