  • Thanks for your comment yesterday, Dad.  I was reminded of two things:  1) the phase you went through a few years ago where you endlessly quoted Moby Dick.  2)  being a kid and remembering Mom exasperated at times at the constant uphill battle of keeping the house clean.  I know what she feels like now.  It was 4 against 1 back then and she was the only one who cared what the house looked like.  It was a reflection on her, and I get that now.

  • I want to share a house cleaning tip I got from my mom and hadn’t tried until yesterday.  To clean a shower liner: throw it in the washing machine.  Does everyone know this?  I wouldn’t have thought about doing it.  In the past I would just buy a new one!   Well, Mom’s tip worked like a charm.  Josh even thought I had bought a new liner.  I used some laundry detergent and bleach in the normal cycle using hot water, and viola!  Good as new.  I just took it out of the washing machine, hung it back up on the rings, and then dried the water that hadn’t been spun out with a bath towel.

  • My friend Alison is coming over today!  I’m so excited.  Can you believe that it’s been 3 1/2 years since we moved into our house, and I still haven’t invited her over?  Some friend I am.  As FlyLady puts it, CHAOS = Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome.  When the house is a mess, I don’t often think about entertaining.  Ali is having twins in December and until then, she’s off from work.  This is the perfect opportunity to get some quality time in before the girls get here.

  • Cute story: our tv has continued to be off during the day, but we’ve let the boys watch a movie or part of a movie in the evening after supper and before bed.  Last night’s movie was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – old school version (and the only one worth watching, if you ask me).  At the part where Charlie finds the golden ticket, I asked the boys, "What is it?!  What did he find?"  At the very same time Jude said, "The last golden ticket!"  and Jett said, "Chocolate!"  Love that little guy.  And both of them ran in circles around the living room, celebrating Charlie’s good fortune.

  • Jesse, you are doing awesome, especially with the no TV, I just couldn’t have done that with the girls when they were little, TV was my savior I’m sorry to say. Its funny because Allie still likes to watch it and Hilary rarely does and she watched just as much as Allie growing up. I had every episode of Barney memorized back then, he did keep my sanity though. I totally commend you for what you are doing, keep up the good work. Talk to you later. Barb

I love Jett’s interpretation of the movie!
