I just received an email (thanks Tara!) about an online contest in which prize money will go to help specific schools based on submitted essays. The contest is sponsored by Henkel – makers of Dial soap, Soft & Dri, Purex, Soft Scrub, et al. Essays were submitted last month and today marks the beginning of online voting. The essay written on behalf of the A-P High School – destroyed by a tornado last spring – was selected as one of ten finalists. The grand prize? A cool $25,000. Nice.
Winners of the contest will be determined by online voting. The school receiving the most votes will get the grand prize. There will be smaller prizes ($2,500 each) awarded to 2nd and 3rd place vote getters. To vote, visit www.henkelhelps.com, scroll through the schools and click on Aplington-Parkersburg High School. You will see the essay, a picture of the school, a field for an email address and a ‘Vote for Me’ button.
According to the rules, one may vote once per day, per email address until the contest ends October 19th. I’ll try to keep tabs on this contest, post reminders and let you know how the votes are coming in. After submitting my vote, A-P was in the lead with about 35% of the votes.
