Why, oh why?Why, oh why?

Jett, why do you do the things you do?

Here he is:

Licking his favorite Barney DVD, sporting new artwork, face covered with peanut butter and jelly.

Earlier this week, I walked in on Jett in the bathroom, dipping this in the toilet:

It’s mine, and it’s 10 years old, it looks a little gross and worn, but all the bristles are still in good shape.  Time for a new one?

And then I caught Jett eating a beautiful wedding invitation we’d just received:

No decorative edging here, that’s straight-up bitten off.  He doesn’t swallow the paper, does that make it better?  Last week we were at a beach area with friends and Jett (acting like a kitty as he often does) was crawling around on all fours eating the leaves off plants.  He chews them up and spits them out.  I’m starting to think this is not normal behavior.

And then, the last (hopefully) Jett-story of the week.  He approached me with his eyes looking a little watery and said "nose" while crinkling up his nose.  Sure enough, he had something stuck up there.  I fished this out with tweezers:

It covers adjustable shelving pegs for our entertainment center.

Do little girls do this stuff?

oh jessie. you need to write a book! haha! as far as little girls doing stuff like this…the only thing on this post i can relate to is the writing on the skin. gabriela has been doing this thing lately–when she’s coloring with markers, she’ll “accidentally” color on her hand or leg. she be coloring and “slip” off the page. then she looks at me and takes a huge ‘oh no’ deep gasp of air in and says “mommy?! look! it was an accident. i promise i won’t write ALL over myself.” then she goes back to coloring. she does that because she knows she’ll get in trouble if i see her doing it. she’s been doing a lot of testing the rules lately. so far no things up the nose. that one looks like it hurt! hang in there. maybe all this stuff will lead to something amazing! :)

Jessie – I think it depends on the child. In my case, the boys weren’t too bad – but Sarah on the other hand! Her “stunts” included starting her doll on fire on top of the stove, eating dog food, and climbing to the top of the frig – and that’s just all of the ones I can remember – i’m sure there was more!! She was a really interesting two year old, believe me!! You just have to remember – this too shall pass!!!
    Enjoy!!

I can relate to the nose thing… My daughter put beans(hard, uncooked) up her nose. She came to me and said “see” and tilted her head back and I could see a bean in each side of her nose. I knew if I paniced she would inhale, so I freaked inside and remained calm on the outside. Grabbed a tissue and asked her to blow, got 2 beans out, looked and there were 2 more, told her to blow again and got those out, looked again and well…this time only got 1 out. I could not believe she had “stored” 5 of them up her nostrils! Oh by the way, that little girl grew up and will be giving me my first grandchild
this fall. She called last night and was in disbelief that her ankles had disappeared on her and she had developed cankles… I laughed, and told her to hold tight the best is yet to come!

Hey Jessie, Yes, little girls can be stinkers too. That would be Hilary. She was probably a little over a year and for about 2 days she stunk, really bad, bathed her, lotioned her, etc. I just couldn’t get the kid to quit smelling. I checked everywhere I could, it seemed to be around her mouth, “nose”, area, but I couldn’t find anything or see anything. Finally, it got so bad, I took her to the doctor, thinking that she had some serious horrible disease, it was awful. Well, after examing her and looking up her nose, twice, he didn’t see it the first time, he called in a nurse, had me stand back and said, OK, there is something up her nose, I can’t tell what it is, but it looks bad. I’m thinking tumor and terrified. He took tweezers first and thank God on the first try pulled out the most disgusting looking think he and I had ever seen, he seriously was almost gagging, and he was the doctor. She had pulled apart a stuffed animal and stuffed the stuffing up her nose and it had like molded, rotted, whatever it had been up there for several days. I remembered finding this stuffed animal that had been ripped and a little stuffing laying around, but I didn’t think much about it and just didn’t put two and two together. He said it was lucky he got it out because it would have been major surgery to go in and get it. He also said it was lucky she didn’t inhale it, it could have lodged anywhere and killed her. Scary then, funny now!!!!!! Oh yea, and a bb stuck in her ear, my ingenious neighbor got a magnet and got it out that time, no medical procedures involved. Oh yea, cat turds were an appetizer one day and covered herself with peanut butter when I was talking on the phone too long one night, just to name a few!!!! Enjoy, fasten your seat belt and stay safe, its a rough ride at times, but oh what a ride to be a parent!!!!! Love ya, Barb

Oh Jessie. Think of how many more stories you will have to tell by the time they graduate high school. It’s good to know I’m not the only one out there with weird kids. Gotta love them though. How boring would our lives be without such adventures? And nope it’s not just boys.

Oh you make me laugh jessie!!!! my son says funny things, but hasn’t done things to this extent, YET.. as i’m sure once he starts preschool, that little mind of his will start a turning and figuring out ways to do things. as for the girls, guess i’ll just have to wait and see!!
and i agree, you could write a book, and should.. of Jettisms and Judeisms.. and how lucky for you to have it all here on the computer for them to see 20 years down the line when they bring home that ‘girl’ for you to meet!! :) won’t have to dig out the scrapbooks, just give them your blog address and they will have a ball!!! :)
