Check it out!  This is Dylan.  He lives with and is cared for by my parents.  Previously, Dylan went to a neighboring school district but as Dylan’s status living with my parents got more and more permanent (sheesh, it’s been years now he’s been living with them full-time) they decided to transition him to their own school district, which is the same one my sister, brother and I graduated from.

I think it’s a beautiful thing.  The school administrators have made the transition easy; the teachers he’ll have during the day are family friends, and best of all, he can continue participation in Special Olympics with his old school (swimming is his favorite – just like Michael Phelps!).  And the high school is only a few blocks from my parents’ home.  Yes, he’s a high-schooler now!  Ninth grade, baby!

My dear sister Emily (whose birthday is TODAY!  Happy birthday, Emily!!) went home to my parents house and stayed overnight just so she could take Dylan to school for the first time with my mom.  How sweet is that?!

I was particularly touched by Emily’s drive home to bring Dylan some surprises, in the clothing category, as well as accompanying him with your mother to school for his first day
He was beaming when we went across the street for a showing. And why wouldn’t he, he was the center of attention, well, almost, he had to share with Bennie, the dog.
This picture sure captures the beaming part.

How sweet of you to feature Dylan today! He was very excited to return today, even running out of the car to Kristi who was waiting for him by the school door!

This story truly warmed my heart, how lucky for Dylan to have fit into your family and how fortunate for your family to be blessed with his presence. I love the part with your sister making a special trip to take part in the big day. I can remember great grandma coming over to see my kids off to school one day, I had to rub my eyes as I wasn’t sure my eyes were focusing right at that hour of the morning 6:00 am(and she drove 40minutes to get there) to bring them fresh doughnut balls that she had made. She wanted to see them get on the bus. I was the lucky one as the memory is mine and reminds me of what a special lady she was.
