This past Monday afternoon Jude was getting restless because Jett hadn’t waken up from his nap yet and Jude really wanted to play with him. He kept trying to run back to his room making lots of noise. Josh and I were telling Jude to stop trying to wake Jett up – over and over again. All of a sudden, Jude collapsed to the floor and began crying with real tears and everything.
He choked out these words: "I want my grandma and grandpa… they miss me!"
Josh and I started chuckling because it was so sudden and random. But his feelings were real so we tried to hold back our laughter. Jude loves both sets of grandparents – obviously! – but I knew he was talking about Josh’s folks this time because it was around the time of the day when Josh’s mom picks up the boys for their weekly date, except this wasn’t a date-day.
I knew Jan would get a kick out of knowing about this sweet, tragic display of love and longing, so we called her on the phone. I gave the phone to Jude, still gently crying. As he talked to her, his sobs got louder and louder until I heard Jan on the other end of the line say, "I’m coming to get you!".
So, within minutes Grandma Jan came to the rescue. And by that time Jett had waken from his nap so he was able to go with her, too. Josh and I ate supper and then we went out to their house as well and had a nice visit.
These little boys have it made in the shade! I don’t know if there has been a week since they were born that they haven’t seen a grandparent. My parents live a little more than an hour away from us and they still see the boys so often. It’s such a blessing for Josh and me, too – knowing we have so much love and support surrounding us at all times.

What an adorable story!!!! What a blessing – your boys are so blessed to have such great grandparents!
Such a great blog today, did Grandma Jan have her cape on? (to the rescue) You’ll have to blog about Grandpa Doug taking the boys to Kanawha all on his own – very impressive! You are right, those little boys are very fortunate to have grandparents so close, just like you (our kids) having grandparents right across the street & 6 miles away growing up.
Have I told you I LOVE your kiddos’ names?
I love that story! Lucky, lucky boys!
Also, do you do anniversary quilts?
