Josh has this whole week off from work; Monday we took the kids to the zoo. Last summer when Josh’s parents had some time off from work, they took Jude & Jett to the zoo. The kiddos weren’t really into it last summer, but they had a great time this year! Josh and I were so pleasantly surprised by how well they did. Jude does a better job now of holding our hands and following directions, Jett is still very much a wild child. We had our double stroller on hand but didn’t make them ride in it very much. Jett constantly wanted to run ahead… far ahead. Holding hands with him is more like grabbing onto his wrist for dear life and them lifting him up by the wrist and threatening him to walk after he collapses to the ground in protest of being restrained. But – both little boys were interested in every animal we saw and were eager to go on to see the next animal. Who could blame them for being so excited?
When I got home and uploaded my photos to my computer, I realized my favorite zoo pictures weren’t of animals, but of Josh & the boys. Maybe that’s a no-brainer, but forgive me that the pictures I want to share with you aren’t of the elephants, giraffes, tigers or lions. They are pictures of the memories we made together as a family.
Looking at the lions.
At the lions’ den. Both boys who normally know the difference, wanted to argue that we were really observing tigers.
Yep, we even sprung for the train ride: 3 tickets @ $1.95, thank you very much.
Counting giraffes.
Toward the end of our outing – tired and entranced by the jellyfish
On the way home – we kept the boys awake by asking Jett what a lion says… over and over again.
Jude studying the toy we let him pick out in the gift shop – it was the only thing he wanted! He has named the action figure – we’re not calling it a doll – Cowboy Jackson. Jett picked a book about a train and we also chose a gift for their baby cousin Jackson – which I’m sure was fresh in Jude’s mind when he named this ascot-wearing man doll. Ok, ok, it’s a doll.

Jesse, I would much rather see the faces of your guys than the animals, totally sweet, nothing like a Dad and his boys. Glad you had a great day. Have a wonderful time on your little get away with Josh, lets get together in the next week or so and catch up. Happy Anniversary!! Barb
