Kansas City

Josh and I went to Kansas City last Wednesday afternoon and returned Friday afternoon.  This was a trip to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary.  The kids stayed with my parents for 2 nights and then went Josh’s parents house for 1 night.  They had a great time.  We had a great time.  And we’re back to a normal week.  It could be worse!

Here is a page from my travel journal written last Thursday evening.

Josh and I have decided we’re not good travelers.  We’re not good about getting out and exploring.  On our honeymoon at a resort in the Cancun, Mexico area, we didn’t leave the resort the whole time.  But, we also had a wonderful time.  We like laying low.

We arrived in Kansas City Wednesday afternoon after a short 2 hour, 45 minute car ride.  As we were entering the hotel, not even yet to the front desk, Josh recognized a friend from college who was there for a business conference and had a short chat with him.  Funny!

We unloaded our stuff in the hotel room then went looking around.  We’re staying at a nice hotel in the Crown Center area and there are a lot of shops and restaurants adjoining our hotel.  We were given a coupon book at check in and were searching for a Mexican restaurant that was in the book.  We found it and smiled to ourselves – it was just a fast food burrito joint.  We were expecting a nice sit-down, fancy- schmancy place.  That was fine with us.  We took our burritos and went back to our room.

Later we went out walking around again and got frozen custard and went outside next to a fountain and ate it.  Yum.  By then it was getting dark so we went back to our room to play cribbage and watch tv.  Fun, right?  It was for us.

This morning we slept in until 9 am.  We ate lunch across the street and then decided to catch a movie.  Yesterday we had asked the front desk where the closest movie theater was.  He answered that The Plaza was the closest place, 20 blocks south of our hotel.  So, we thought it’d be a cinch to walk.  BAD IDEA!

We don’t know why the front desk would say it was 20 blocks instead of 4 miles?  We walked for an hour and 15 minutes.  But the beautiful thing was that we found the theater 1 minute before our movie started.  We didn’t even know the movie times prior to finding the theater, or even what movies were playing.  But we wanted to see Iron Man, and that’s what we watched.  It was good, we both really enjoyed it.

And then we took the bus back to the hotel.  It took 10 minutes… and $2.50.
