Baptism

I was baptized yesterday afternoon.  The event was scheduled for two weeks ago, but was postponed due to weather.  My parents came, my sister and brother (and his girlfriend) came, my in-laws, both sets of grandparents.  Many friends were also there making the day so special.

I was asked to give my testimony.  Oh my goodness.  That was more difficult emotionally to get through than I ever would have thought.  I choked out my story of knowing Jesus as a youngster, to not acting like He was Lord of my life for many years, back to knowing Him again, pursuing a meaningful relationship with Him, learning and growing in the Word, having godly friends and mentors.

After I spoke, our pastor asked if anyone else would like to share on my behalf for encouragement.  I’ll forever treasure each kind word said on my behalf both publicly and later privately.  I was so concerned about giving my testimony beforehand that I didn’t realize or remember that anyone would have the opportunity to share.  That was such a blessing.  I could just stand, listen and absorb the love coming from the lips of those I love.  God is good.

The cool, refreshing water in the warm afternoon sun was too perfect to describe.

Standing next to me is David who was also baptized yesterday.  He is the son of our pastor who graduated from high school last month and is off to the U.S. Air Force Academy this week to begin Basic Cadet Training.

Hi Jessie, I really enjoyed the baptisms last night, they are so emotional. You did great with your testimony, I cried too, thats just the way it is. Its so neat to see the Lord at work. You are a great girl and miles ahead of me when i was your age with your faith, it took me a lot longer to figure everything out. We have been Christians now for 8 years and it wasn’t until we came to New Hope that we accepted Christ, John and I at the same time pretty much. Pastor Tom came to our house and ask us that all important question, it wasn’t immediate, but didnt take long after being around a lot of the people at NH that we decided we wanted to live our life for Christ. I just love nights like last night, its just nice to get together with fellow Christians and know Christ is present. It was nice to meet some of your family too, your Grandmas and Mom are sweet. Hi Grandmas and Mom. Take care girl, talk to you later. Barb
