We had quite a May Day yesterday. We went on a walk with our friends in the morning. As we got closer to our house on the way back, I let the kids out of the stroller to walk. Jett ran way ahead and then Jude decided to catch up. Jude pulled on Jett’s shirt as he approached and knocked him down, falling on top of him. Jett face slid across the sidewalk and he was HURTING! I tried to carry him all the way home, but he was determined to walk. He said he was “ok” over and over again, and then he really was fine. We cleaned him up when we got home. His face looked a little swollen at first, but that went away quickly.
We had lots of thoughtful friends deliver May baskets throughout the day. It was so sweet! The kids were so excited about each one. Thanks friends!!
Last night for supper we went to Ames to meet the family to celebrate Dad’s birthday at Hickory Park. I would like to say we had a great time, but it didn’t go exactly as perfectly as everyone might have hoped, myself included.
First of all, the restaurant was absolutely crowded, isn’t it always?! We had 8 adults and 3 kids (including Dylan), and had enough room for about 6 people. The kids were restless to say the least. They’d been in the car for 1 hour by this point. Jude kept running away from me in the restaurant. Then they wouldn’t sit in their high chairs. Then they were encroaching on the people who were on either side of our table. My poor mother insisted she really wasn’t hungry and sat in the van in the parking lot playing with Jude to keep him entertained. Jett didn’t pass up the good food and he sat nicely at the table (until the food was gone). Then I took him out to the van, too.
Mom is such a trooper. She remains selfless even though she’s the grandma now and I should be the one sacrificing for the sake of the children. She loves spending time with the kids, and likewise, they love their Aba.
I told everyone as we were leaving, “Feel free not to invite us to anything ever again.” Half-joking, I admit, but in some situations, I wish I could just disappear into thin air than look so utterly out of control of my two little boys in public. Notice how the little ones are absent from the pictures below.
