I had written in an earlier blog that we had bought a new potty chair for Jude weeks ago. We hadn’t pressed the issue much until last Wednesday when I decided we’d give it another try.
That first day he had accidents all day. Really, he only made it in the potty chair once – and that was a matter of me catching him in the corner already starting his business.
The second day was much, much better. As you can see, we award stickers for every successful bathroom visit. Thanks Amanda and Gabs for the stickers you gave us for Christmas – they’re coming in handy!
The funniest thing about his bathroom routine is that he takes great pride in emptying the removable reservoir into the toilet. He did this on his own after seeing Josh and I do it only a few times. It’s almost as though he is using the potty only to be able to empty it. It’s his job. He’s pretty careful with it, too, which is an added bonus. There was only one time so far when he got really carried away. He threw that urine into the toilet much like one would douse flames with a bucket of water. I was trying so hard not to laugh because I didn’t want him to do it again, but it was just too funny. He was very serious about it.
I’m sure we’re a long way from total self-reliance in this area, but finally after 2 years of having 2 kids in diapers at the same time, we’re seeing the end in sight.
