We had a great weekend! Josh, the boys and I arrived in my home town of Le Grand Friday night. The boys had a great time expending some serious energy until around 11:30 that night. They can get away with anything at Abba’s house!
One of my favorite things about visiting home is getting to sleep in. Mom & Dad take care of the kids so that we can catch up on sleep. It’s wonderful! We hadn’t been home since Christmas, so we were overdue for a visit.
Saturday Josh and I got to watch 2 movies. I can’t remember the last time we were able to do that. We watched Eagle Vs Shark and Stranger than Fiction. We enjoyed both. That afternoon we all went across the street to my grandma & grandpa’s house to watch the Drake game. I only caught the last 8 minutes or so, but it was exciting to watch them win.
Saturday evening we met family at a restaurant in Marshalltown to celebrate GG’s 90th birthday. GG stands for great-grandma; in fact, my brother joked that he didn’t know GG’s real name was Doris until he was 12!
We had a wonderful dinner and afterwards watched a photo montage put together by cousins of mine. It was so nice. There were pictures of GG when she was young and newly married, pictures of all kinds of family birthdays and holidays over the years. There was a lot of laughing over old clothing and hair styles! Every family received a copy of the DVD – what a great gift not only for GG, but for the rest of us, too.
A scrapbook of memories was presented to GG after the video. Another cousin of mine gathered remembrances of GG written by each member of the family along with photos and compiled them into a beautiful scrapbook. It was so nicely done. Could there be a better gift for a 90 year old woman? I’m sure GG will cherish it.
Here are pictures of the evening, ahem – taken with my new camera. :)
