We just got back from the doctor’s office this morning. Jett has a classic case of croup. Two nights ago was the first sign. It was around 10 pm or so, and we heard this hideous noise come out of the boys’ room. I’m telling you, it sounded like an injured dog. Josh and I looked at each other, and then I went in to check for strays. Nothing was out of the ordinary; both boys were sleeping peacefully.
Yesterday morning Jett was fine. After he woke up from his nap in the afternoon, however, he was all sorts of sick. Fever, coughing, generally sad and clingy.
Last night was a bad night. Jett woke up around 1 am and came into our bed. I’m glad that Josh opted for the couch at that point, because it was nearly 3 am until Jett had fallen back asleep. Poor kid. He was burning up and struggling to breathe. The Motrin finally kicked in and his fever subsided.
At the doctor’s office this morning, Jett was given a single-dose oral steroid to get him through the day and will make tonight better. Josh is going to pick up a humidifier on the way home from work, too. It’s about time we invest in one; it will probably get lots of use in the years to come.
I was also told today that a wet, mucousy cough & cold will follow the croup – so we have that to look forward to. Is there a chance that Jude won’t pick this up? This is a picture of him making a silly face – not of him being sick… yet.
