Just in case you were starting to admire my sewing abilities, I felt it was time for full disclosure… to let you see what I can really do.
The task?
To attach Jude’s first Awana badge to his vest. Sounds simple, right?
Because of the little bumps and irregular surface on the back side of the badge, I assumed it was an iron-on. It made sense to me. I figured that just about every parent should be able to iron-on a badge… you know, as opposed to getting out a needle and thread – or sewing machine – to attach it.
So, I pressed the badge to the vest for a good 10 seconds on the hottest iron setting.
And after the 10 seconds had passed, I lifted the iron to see if the badge was adhering… and I couldn’t see the badge at all.
I checked the bottom of the iron, and sure enough, it was there and it was adhering, just not to the surface I expected.
Ooops!
So I peeled the badge carefully off of the hot iron and then actually sewed it – with my sewing machine – to the vest.
The badge sustained some heat damage: it was a little stiff and distorted, the edges melted off – but it’s on and it’ll stay on!
And I’ll know better next time.

Now that is something I would totally do!
You crack me up. :)
I always absolutely hated sewing those stupid badges on. I think they should give mother’s badges for getting them sewn on!!!!!
