I cannot take sole responsibility for this next project. In fact, I can only take credit for the art direction and idea… the rest was my sister and my mom. I wanted to make something special for my friend Kelly’s birthday so I utilized the fact that I was going to spend this last Saturday at Jessie’s where I would have access to Jessie’s sewing machine, and well… HER. The whole family was at Jessie’s for a sleepover so with Mom available too, I had double the sewing expertise!
Kelly is an excellent chef and actually loves to cook. Me? I’m the complete opposite, but she will sometimes get me to help her out every once in awhile. I thought an apron would be the perfect gift for Kelly. Knowing Kelly’s sense of style and love for all things retro, picking out the fabrics was a breeze. The rest, well… was a little improvised. We knew the basic idea of what we were making, but I failed to print out the patterns to get the exact instructions on how to assemble the apron. I relied on Mom and Jessie to figure out how to make it happen. And they did!

I had the idea to make this apron extra-fitting for Kelly by adding this little owl design which Jessie expertly appliquéd to the pocket. Kelly loves and collects everything owl related.

Appliquéd and sewn to the apron
The finished prod.
I think it turned out great, and Kelly loved it. She even wore it around for awhile.

i LOVE it! good job by all of you!
You all have so much talent and that apron is so cool. You could make aprons and sell them. I love all your quilts and everything you do. Keep up the good work. Emily has so many talents with her art and the Mother of you two has so many talents also, like being homecoming queen, and the Mother of three exceptional children.
Mary
Thanks Mary, that’s really sweet. =)
Are you accepting orders for these fabulous aprons? I think my new icon would look simply smashing on an apron. :)
