My friend Sara P (frequent commenter on this blog) and I had an all day sew-fest over the weekend and it was fun-fun-fun! Sara is just beginning to sew; I found her a used sewing machine on Craigslist and instead of just meeting to give it to her, I thought it might be fun to show her how to use the machine. And then I thought it would be fun to show her the basics of quilt piecing. And what do you know? It was fun! All of it.
Here is Sara piecing her first quilt! The long and short of it: she’s a natural! We ended up having just enough time for Sara to get all of her blocks made and part of the quilt top sewn together.
Pretty cute, huh?
My older kids were with my mom all day and Jace was with me. What did Jace do while we sewed?
There was some of this:

I had so much fun! :) I’m really looking forward to our next session! :) Thanks again
Looks like you guys had sew much fun.
Ha ha ha…love it Emily. Fricking love it!
Looks great Sara!! Can’t wait to see it all finished!! I HATE triangles (matching those pesky points up gives me too much grief), so i’ve yet to do a quilt with triangles in it (UNLESS of course its paper pieced).. you are one brave woman!!! You are learning from the best!!!
Sara did an awesome job matching up the points of her triangles! Seriously, when I demonstrated for her how to join together blocks, my point-matching was way worse than any of hers. But I’m not a perfectionist by any means so it has to be really screwed up for me to rip out a seam and try again!
I had so so so (sew) much fun! Loving it for sure. Lisa maybe sometime we can get together and I can learn about bags! ;)
I think I just got really lucky with the triangles because I had no trouble at all. My machine handled it like a dream. I still owe you for the foot and awl (is that how you spell it?), Jessie!
Also, it must be noted that I never made mention of Jessie’s Astros shirt the whole time we were in the weird community center. Even though I really wanted to go home and put my Pujols shirt on. :)
