I wanted to share my recently inherited pillowcases with you. Ok, the photos only show one, but the other pillowcase is identical. I don’t know what I’ll do with these besides quilt the living snot out of them! :) I can just see all the empty space being filled with an intricate quilted design, maybe even using trapunto, white thread on a white background. The thought thrills me! Hello, my name is Jessie and I’m the biggest nerd you’ll ever meet.
These pillowcases belonged to my Great-Grandma Grove, she passed several years ago and now that my great-grandpa has moved into a nursing home, the family has begun to go through some of the things in their house. My grandma thought that my great-grandma embroidered these, but didn’t know when. I think they are so pretty.
I just noticed last night as I was photographing them that my great-grandma ran out of pink embroidery floss partway through the 3rd motif and finished it and the other two using a lighter shade of pink. So special! Can you tell in the photo? I love the little details like that. I like the scalloped edge of the pillowcase, too. They are both in great shape and even smell that lovely linen smell.
Now if I could just get through my other 10 projects first… then these pillowcases will be mine… all mine…! (evil laugh)
