New Pattern

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today is an extra special Valentine’s Day for my family. I’ll tell you more tomorrow.

For now, do you remember those vibrant fabrics I posted in an earlier blog? This is the new pattern in which I’ll be using that same fabric. It will have some easy applique – a departure from most of my quilts which contain NO applique. I like applique when it accomplishes something traditional piecing cannot, but I don’t seek out projects requiring applique. I think it’s important to try new things and push oneself to try new techniques and styles.

For this quilt, I’m planning to turn the raw edges of the applique under template plastic, securing it with spray starch, and then using a machine zig zag or buttonhole stitch around the turned edge. I’ve never tried this technique before so it will be an adventure. I’ll let you know how I like it. I’ve only done raw edge applique using fusible webbing and it’s time to try something new.
This new design uses 3 different blocks: one stylized appliquéd daffodil, and 2 pieced blocks that are alternated throughout the quilt. It is set on-point. I need a name for it. Suggestions welcome!
